We are recruiting a SEND Teaching Assistant to join a specialist education setting in Plymouth from January, supporting children and young people with a range of additional needs.
You'll work closely with pupils who may need extra help to access learning, regulate their emotions, communicate effectively or develop greater independence.
For the right person, this is an opportunity to start the new year in a role where the work you do each day genuinely matters.
No two pupils - and often no two days - will be exactly the same.
You may be helping one pupil break a classroom activity into manageable steps, supporting another through a difficult transition, or encouraging a young person to attempt something they previously lacked the confidence to try.
You'll:
- Provide 1:1 and small-group SEND support.
- Support pupils with needs including Autism (ASC), ADHD, SEMH, speech and language difficulties and moderate learning needs.
- Help pupils access lessons and personalised learning activities.
- Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
- Encourage communication, social interaction and confidence.
- Help young people develop greater independence.
- Adapt activities and resources around individual needs.
- Work closely with teachers, therapists and other support professionals.
- Support pupils during lessons, breaks, enrichment activities and educational visits.
- Observe progress and contribute useful feedback to the wider team.
Previous SEND experience would be particularly valuable, but your approach to young people matters too.
We're looking for someone who is patient, dependable, encouraging and resilient.
You'll need to be able to build positive relationships while maintaining appropriate boundaries and remain calm when a young person is struggling.
Due to the nature and location of the work, you should be able to drive and have access to your own vehicle.
You'll also need an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to obtain one, together with satisfactory references and the relevant safeguarding checks.
