For some children and young people, being able to participate fully in education depends on having the right health, care and learning support around them.
We're looking for a compassionate Educational Health Care Assistant (EHCA) to join a specialist education setting in Plymouth for an immediate start.
You'll support pupils with additional and complex needs throughout their school day, helping them access learning while also providing the individual care, reassurance and practical support they need to feel safe, comfortable and included.
It's a role where care and education come together - and where your support can make an enormous difference to a young person's everyday life.
Working alongside teachers, therapists and other specialist professionals, you'll provide individualised support based around each pupil's needs.
Your day could involve:
- Providing 1:1 and small-group support.
- Helping pupils access classroom learning and activities.
- Supporting children and young people with SEND, disabilities and additional health or care needs.
- Following individual education, health and care plans.
- Providing appropriate personal and practical care where required.
- Supporting mobility and physical needs.
- Encouraging communication and social interaction.
- Helping pupils regulate their emotions and manage transitions.
- Promoting independence wherever possible.
- Supporting pupils during breaks, activities and educational visits.
- Observing pupils closely and communicating relevant information to colleagues.
- Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists and other professionals.
Training and guidance will be provided around specific requirements and agreed care procedures.
Experience within education, SEND, health or care would be particularly valuable.
You might currently work as a:
Health Care Assistant • Support Worker • Care Assistant • Teaching Assistant • SEND Support Assistant • Residential Support Worker • Learning Support Assistant
We're looking for someone who is caring, compassionate, patient and dependable. You'll need to be comfortable providing individualised care and support while respecting pupils' dignity and encouraging independence.
You'll also need to remain calm when situations become challenging, follow agreed health, care and safeguarding procedures, and work confidently as part of a multidisciplinary team.
An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one, will be required.
This full-time, term-time opportunity offers:
- £90 per day.
- An immediate start.
- Long-term work within specialist education.
- Training and professional development.
- Experience across education, SEND and care.
- Support from an experienced multidisciplinary team.
- The opportunity to develop valuable specialist skills.
