Amanda South Assistant Patient Services Coordinator amanda.south@nhs.net Shortlisting Date: 23rd September 2026 Interview Date: 6th October 2026 Job Summary This post is a permanent part-time position of 15 hours per week and consists of providing administrative support to our optometrists and dispensing opticians who deliver adult refraction clinics, contact lenses clinics and low vision assessments that are primarily held at our eye clinic at St James Hospital within the Gledhow Wing, Leeds. This role is ideal for individuals looking to begin or develop a career in administration within the NHS. Gaining experience in this department will provide the successful candidate with a strong foundation of knowledge and skills, supporting future progression opportunities within the Trust. A comprehensive induction programme and structured training will be provided, alongside opportunities for ongoing professional development within a supportive team environment. Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to: Responding to patient queries via telephone; email and face to face in a professional and compassionate manner; supporting the daily cashing up of clinics; booking patient appointments in line with Trust guidelines. This may include booking and rearranging appointments, responding to enquiries, and providing a professional, courteous service that reflects the Trusts commitment to high-quality patient care. Ophthalmology is one of the Trusts largest services, offering a diverse range of sub-specialties and processes. Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: Responding to patient queries via telephone in a professional and compassionate manner Supporting the daily cashing up of clinic activity Booking patient appointments in line with Trust guidelines Maintaining strict adherence to Information Governance policies Providing general administrative support to ensure the smooth running of the service Taking payments for optical supplies and contact lenses. The post holder will receive and check patient information within departmental guidelines, including entering information on to the appropriate IT system, and retrieve information as and when required. To process patient and other documentation. To be the first point of contact for patients and other visitors to the department. To provide an administrative/clerical service to the department/team. To support the delivery of a high standard of service to patients, staff and Trust departments.
