Summary

We invite applications for a 3-year part-time Teaching Fellowship, Senior Teaching Fellowship, or Lectureship in Animal Behaviour and Welfare Science. This single role is 100% teaching at 0.5 FTE, and therefore is expected to be taken up as a Teaching Fellowship or Senior Teaching Fellowship. However, applicants who hold current research funding may negotiate whether the role could be a fixed-term Lectureship with the externally funded research conducted outside these hours.

The position is available in the Animal Welfare Science and Ethics (AWSE) group at the Royal Veterinary College. The post will be based at our Hawkshead Campus, near Potters Bar Hertfordshire, a 20-minute train ride from the centre of cosmopolitan London.

The position will play an essential role in delivery of outstanding, engaging and innovative animal welfare teaching across RVC’s undergraduate courses (primarily in the BSc Animal Biology, Behaviour, Welfare & Ethics, and the Veterinary Medicine courses). The role will comprise a wide range of activities including animal welfare, behaviour and husbandry teaching, student assessment, undergraduate and taught masters research project supervision, student pastoral support, and relevant RVC committee work.

The role requires a significant proportion of face to face, in-person interaction and, whilst based primarily at our Hawkshead campus, may require some activities in Camden and / or the RVC farm, or remote work. The ability to work flexible hours as agreed in advance of teaching may be necessary to ensure coverage of teaching across courses.

Candidates will need a degree in animal welfare science or a related subject, and experience of teaching. They will be comfortable working with a range of species. They will have excellent organisational and communication skills, be comfortable liaising with different people, and work well within a diverse team as well as independently. Candidates must have an existing right to work within the UK.

We offer a generous reward package and benefits including:

- Competitive and attractive pension package

- Generous 30 days annual leave (plus bank holidays + concessionary days)

- Access to free in-house CPD and funded external CPD

- A range of family friendly policies, including adoption, maternity and paternity pay and leave

- On site café and restaurant

- Free membership to the newly built Fitness and Wellbeing Centre located on site (gym, badminton, climbing wall, Zumba, yoga and Pilates classes included)

- Cycle to work scheme

- Free mini-bus service to and from Potters Bar station and Hawkshead Campus

Prospective applicants are encouraged to contact Dr Charlotte Burn and/or Prof. Troy Gibson via email: cburn@rvc.ac.uk and/or tgibson@rvc.ac.uk

Please note: we are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this position, and applicants must have the existing right to work in the UK.
