Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join an established team of Community Children’s Nurses in Birmingham. This is a city wide service that offers specialist nursing support to children & families with a variety of complex physical health needs.
We provide clinical interventions to children within their own homes, schools and other community locations. The service operates seven days a week and also provides an out of hours ‘on-call’ service.
If you are an experienced Children’s Nurse with excellent clinical skills, have advanced communication abilities you may be who we are looking for to join our busy team. This post will provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to develop rewarding therapeutic relationships with children & families in a community setting.
1. Follow the NMC Code and professional standards and take responsibility for your work.
2. Provide safe, skilled and evidence-based nursing care to children at home and in community settings.
3. Give health advice and education to children and families to support healthy lifestyles.
4. Help teach families, carers and other professionals so that care is provided safely and effectively.
5. Carry out risk assessments in children’s homes.
6. Get informed consent from children, parents or carers before providing care.
7. Keep accurate, clear and up-to-date records of all care provided.
8. Work closely with hospitals, GPs, community healthcare teams and other services when needed.

2. Always maintain a professional attitude and follow NMC standards and the organisation's policies.
3. Work independently and safely while following BCHC guidelines and policies.Travel to visit children and families within the Birmingham area.
1. Keep your knowledge and nursing skills up to date.
2. Take part in professional development and mandatory training required by the NMC and organisation.
3. Support the teaching and mentoring of other staff.
4. Take part in research and clinical audits related to the service.
5. Help maintain high standards of care and patient safety through good clinical governance.
6. Report any concerns or risks to the Team Leader, senior nurse or manager.

The post holder is responsible for assessing, planning and evaluating care under the supervision of the Team Leader. They are required to work in conjunction with paediatric palliative care team, supporting parents, carers and children with life limiting conditions in the terminal phase of their illness. To liaise with other professionals as guided by the team leader.
