Summary

Communication Support Worker - South Yorkshire

Location: South Yorkshire

Salary: £23.00-£25.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications

Hours: Full-time, part-time

Contract: Temporary to Permanent

We are currently recruiting for a Communication Support Worker to join a supportive education setting in South Yorkshire. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified professional with a strong understanding of British Sign Language (BSL) to provide communication and learning support to deaf and hearing-impaired students.

The successful candidate will work closely with students and teaching staff to ensure learners can fully access their education, communicate effectively and develop their confidence and independence.

Key Responsibilities

- Providing high-quality communication support to deaf and hearing-impaired students

- Using British Sign Language (BSL) to support communication and learning

- Supporting students on a one-to-one and small-group basis

- Assisting learners to access lessons, activities and the wider curriculum

- Working collaboratively with teaching staff and other professionals

- Supporting students' confidence, independence and social development

- Adapting communication and learning support to meet individual needs

- Maintaining a positive, inclusive and supportive learning environment

About You

The ideal candidate will:

- Hold BSL Level 6 or a relevant degree

- Have strong communication and interpersonal skills

- Be confident using BSL in an educational environment

- Have experience supporting deaf or hearing-impaired students (desirable)

- Be patient, empathetic and student-focused

- Be reliable, adaptable and able to work effectively as part of a team

- Have a genuine passion for supporting learners to achieve their potential
