Salary: £13.00-£15.00 per hour, depending on experience
Hours: Full-time, part-time
Contract: Temporary to Permanent
We are currently recruiting for an experienced and resilient Pastoral Officer to join a supportive education setting in South Yorkshire. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong background in behaviour management, challenging behaviour and alternative provision.
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting students who may present with complex behavioural, emotional and social needs. You will work closely with teaching staff and the wider pastoral team to promote positive behaviour, engagement and improved outcomes for students.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting students with challenging behaviour and complex needs
- Implementing effective behaviour management strategies
- Building positive, trusting relationships with students
- Supporting students with emotional, social and behavioural difficulties
- De-escalating challenging situations and responding calmly and appropriately
- Encouraging positive behaviour, attendance and engagement
- Providing one-to-one and small-group pastoral support
- Working closely with teaching staff, senior leaders and external professionals
- Supporting students to develop resilience, confidence and independence
- Contributing to a safe, positive and inclusive learning environment
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
- Previous experience working within alternative provision
- Strong experience supporting students with challenging behaviour
- A good understanding of behaviour management and de-escalation strategies
- Experience working with students with social, emotional and behavioural needs
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- A calm, patient and consistent approach
- The resilience to work effectively in a challenging environment
- The ability to build strong professional relationships with young people
- A proactive and solution-focused approach to supporting students
