Summary
Educato Recruitment are working with a growing Alternative Provision in Rochdale who are looking for a confident, reliable and resilient Cover Supervisor to join their team on a long-term basis.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys working with young people and wants to build valuable experience within Alternative Provision, SEND and SEMH education.
No teaching qualification is required for this role.
We are open to applications from candidates with experience in education, youth work, sports coaching, mentoring, care, residential settings or other roles where you have developed strong communication, behaviour management and relationship-building skills.
As a Cover Supervisor, you will support the day-to-day running of the provision by supervising pupils during lessons and ensuring they remain engaged with the work provided by teaching staff.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supervising classes during the short-term absence of teaching staff
- Delivering pre-prepared lessons and activities
- Ensuring pupils remain focused and engaged with their learning
- Managing behaviour calmly and consistently
- Building positive and trusting relationships with pupils
- Supporting pupils with SEND, SEMH and behavioural needs
- Encouraging positive attitudes towards education and learning
- Maintaining a safe, calm and purposeful learning environment
- Following the school's behaviour, safeguarding and attendance procedures
- Reporting any concerns or incidents to the appropriate member of staff
- Working closely with teachers, pastoral staff and the wider team
- Supporting pupils to develop confidence, resilience and independence
The provision supports young people who may have experienced barriers to mainstream education and require a more individualised and supportive approach.
Pupils may have:
- SEND and additional learning needs
- SEMH needs
- Behavioural challenges
- Autism and ADHD
- Emotional regulation difficulties
- Anxiety and low confidence
- Attendance and engagement difficulties
- Previous experiences of exclusion or disengagement from education
You don't need to be a qualified teacher - you do need to be someone who can remain calm, set clear boundaries and build positive relationships with young people.
We are looking for someone who is:
- Confident and comfortable managing a classroom
- Calm, patient and consistent
- Reliable, professional and resilient
- Able to communicate clearly with young people
- Confident managing challenging behaviour
- Passionate about supporting young people
- Adaptable and able to work across different subjects
- Able to build positive relationships with pupils and staff
Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable but not essential.

This role is initially offered on a long-term agency basis, with the opportunity to move onto a permanent contract through our 12-week temp-to-perm agreement.
