Why this role?
For a young person who's disengaged from education - often after trauma, adverse childhood experiences, or persistent exclusion - a Learning Mentor is frequently the most trusted adult in their entire school experience. Everything else rests on that relationship. If building it is what you do well, London's SEMH and AP settings need you.
A typical week could include
- One to one mentoring focused on removing barriers to learning and engagement
- Building confidence, resilience, and self-belief in disengaged pupils
- Emotional wellbeing guidance and positive behaviour support
- Collaborating with teachers, therapists, and multidisciplinary teams
What you'll need
- Relevant experience building relationships with disengaged young people
- Enhanced DBS with children's barred list
- Level 2 Safeguarding certificate
- Two phone-verified professional references
- Right to work in the UK
Even better if you have
- SEMH and AP settings experience
- Trauma-informed and restorative practice
- Post-16 provision experience
- Youth work or community backgrounds
