Our newest service, Crowlin Recovery House, has been commissioned by NHS Hampshire & Isle of Wight Integrated Care Board as an alternative model of Mental Health Crisis Care.

About Recovery House

Crowlin Recovery House is a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week, short-term residential, non-clinical mental health crisis service providing an alternative to hospital admission.

The service supports adults experiencing a mental health crisis by providing a safe, welcoming and therapeutic environment where individuals can stabilise, recover and safely return home.

Working closely alongside the Crisis Resolution Home Treatment Teams (CRHTTs), our Recovery House delivers trauma-informed, recovery-focused interventions that empower people to regain confidence, develop coping strategies and reconnect with their communities.

The service accommodates up to 10 guests and operates 365 days a year. The Senior Recovery Practitioner plays a key role in ensuring the smooth delivery of the service, leading shifts and supporting both guests and colleagues to achieve outstanding outcomes. The service is designed as

a short-term, non-clinical alternative to hospital admission, operating in partnership with Crisis Resolution Home Treatment Teams and focusing on personalised recovery, trauma-informed practice and safe discharge planning.

Job Purpose

The Senior Recovery Practitioner is responsible for leading the operational delivery of the Recovery House during their allocated shifts.

You will provide visible leadership, coordinate staff, support guests, oversee admissions and discharges, manage incidents, ensure safe staffing levels and promote a positive therapeutic environment.

You will work alongside the Deputy Service Manager and Service Manager to ensure that every guest receives high-quality, compassionate, recovery-focused support.

This role is ideal for an experienced mental health professional who is passionate about supporting people through crisis whilst developing future leaders within the team.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the Recovery House during allocated shifts, coordinating daily operations, allocating staff duties and maintaining safe staffing levels.

• Lead handovers and support effective teamwork, providing guidance to staff and responding appropriately to operational issues.

• Provide high-quality, recovery-focused support, building therapeutic relationships and promoting independence, emotional wellbeing, hope and resilience.

• Support guests experiencing emotional distress or crisis, helping them achieve personal recovery goals and engage in meaningful activities.

• Support admissions and referrals, including welcoming guests, completing orientation, explaining house expectations, supporting risk management and ensuring documentation is completed.

• Work collaboratively with Crisis Resolution Home Treatment Teams and other professionals to ensure admissions and referrals are managed effectively.

• Support guests to develop and review Recovery, Wellness, Safety, Crisis Prevention, Return Home and Community Integration Plans.

• Encourage guests to take ownership of their recovery journey, promoting personal responsibility, independence and community integration.

• Participate in the on-call rota, providing guidance to staff, responding to incidents and emergencies, assessing and escalating concerns, and liaising with NHS and emergency services when required.

• Lead and facilitate recovery-focused group sessions, including wellbeing, mindfulness, life skills, confidence building, resilience workshops, community meetings and daily check-ins.

• Build effective partnerships with NHS mental health services, Crisis Resolution/Home Treatment Teams, housing providers, local authorities, community organisations, families and carers where appropriate.

• Participate in 72-hour reviews, weekly reviews, multidisciplinary discussions and discharge planning.

• Safeguard guests by identifying and reporting concerns, following safeguarding procedures, maintaining accurate records and promoting safe practice.

• Lead appropriate responses to mental health crises, challenging behaviour, missing persons, medical emergencies, fire evacuations and welfare concerns, ensuring incidents are documented and reviewed.

• Maintain accurate and timely electronic care records, daily notes, risk assessments, incident reports, handovers and recovery outcomes, including relevant MHSDS information.

• Provide day-to-day supervision, coaching and support to Recovery Practitioners, promote reflective practice and identify training and development needs.

• Support quality assurance and continuous improvement through audits, incident reviews, action plans and monitoring of service standards.

• Promote compliance with health and safety, fire safety, infection control, lone working, manual handling and risk management procedures.

• Maintain high professional standards, including confidentiality, professional boundaries, equality, dignity, mandatory training and supervision.
