As a Post-16 Academic Support Mentor, you'll provide the academic guidance and encouragement they need to secure these essential qualifications and unlock future opportunities.

The Role

As a Post-16 Academic Support Mentor, you will work closely with college students who are retaking GCSE English and/or Maths. Through targeted interventions, mentoring sessions, and academic support, you'll help learners improve their attainment, confidence, and exam performance.

Working alongside experienced lecturers and student support teams, you'll become an integral part of the college community while gaining valuable educational experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver one-to-one and small-group support for students resitting GCSE English and Maths

• Provide academic mentoring and study skills guidance

• Support learners with exam preparation and revision strategies

• Help students develop confidence in literacy and numeracy

• Identify barriers to learning and implement effective support strategies

• Monitor student progress and celebrate achievement

• Promote positive attitudes towards learning and attendance

• Work collaboratively with teaching staff and student support teams

• Encourage students to achieve the qualifications required for future progression

Candidate Requirements

Essential

A minimum 2:1 degree from a UK university in subjects such as:

English

English Literature

Mathematics

Psychology

Education Studies

Sociology

History

Geography

Economics

Business

Criminology

Science

Or another relevant academic discipline

GCSE Grade 6/B or above in English and Maths

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Strong academic background and passion for supporting young people

Ability to build positive relationships with students aged 16-19

Desirable

• Previous tutoring, mentoring, coaching, or classroom experience

• Knowledge of GCSE English and Maths curricula

• Experience working with young people in educational, youth work, or support settings

• Interest in teaching, student support, or further education careers
