Summary
The successful applicant will join Moorfields Eye Hospital as a Locum Consultant Ophthalmologist specialising in Cornea, working across the Stratford and Brent Cross sites to establish, develop and lead a new corneal service. The post holder will be responsible for providing high-quality consultant-led care for patients with corneal and external eye disease, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective and patient-centred services. Clinical duties will include the assessment and management of new and follow-up patients in outpatient clinics, undertaking corneal surgical procedures and theatre lists, and supporting the management of referrals into the Corneal Service. The successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively with medical, nursing, allied health professional and managerial colleagues to support service delivery, operational performance and continuous quality improvement. They will contribute to the development of clinical pathways, audit programmes, service improvement initiatives and clinical governance activities to maintain the highest standards of patient care. The role includes participation in teaching and training activities, providing supervision and support to junior doctors, medical students, observers and allied healthcare professionals. The post holder will also contribute to Moorfields' internationally recognised research, education and innovation agenda through involvement in research, audit and academic activities where appropriate. As a senior clinical leader, the post holder will be expected to demonstrate excellent communication and leadership skills, support multidisciplinary team working, participate in business planning and service development, and contribute to the achievement of Trust objectives. This full-time post comprises 9.13 Programmed Activities (7.13 clinical, 1 Supporting Professional Activities and 1 associated administration) and has no on-call commitment. The job plan may be reviewed and amended in line with service requirements and the successful candidate's expertise.
