Summary

The young person has a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder, confirmed in July 2015. The Young person also has a history of severe milk intolerance and eczema. Whilst her tolerance to some processed dairy products has improved, she remains highly sensitive to certain dairy products and requires careful monitoring when accessing activities in the community.

Due to her allergy needs, there may be occasions when the Personal Assistant is required to administer prescribed medication in response to an allergic reaction. The successful applicant must therefore be confident in following medical guidance, undertaking any necessary training, and responding appropriately to health-related situations.

Purpose of the Role

The Personal Assistant role is designed to support the young person to access activities and opportunities within her local community that reflect her interests, strengths, and preferences.

The successful applicant will help the young person:

Participate in activities she enjoys and wishes to explore.

Build confidence in a variety of community settings and social environments.

Develop independence and life skills outside of the family home.

Form a positive and trusting relationship with a consistent adult outside of her immediate family network.

Access new experiences and opportunities that may not otherwise be available to her.

Increase social interaction and engagement within her local community in a safe, supportive, and enjoyable way.

The role will involve accompanying the young person to organised community groups, recreational activities, and local events, whilst providing encouragement, reassurance, and support to help her feel comfortable and confident in different environments.

About the Role

Duties and Responsibilities

• Support and/or prompt with personal care. This may include toileting, showering/bathing, getting in and out of bed, getting dressed.

• Support and/or prompt the individual to take medication.

• Support to get to and from school/work/college/social activities.

• Support and/or prompt the individual to access sporting and leisure activities.

• Assist and encourage socialisation, participating in activities.

• Promote and encourage friendships and independence.

• Develop a good and trusting one to one working relationship.

Only candidates aged 18 or over should apply for this position as you will be required to administer medication.

The individuals needs may vary from day to day and your tasks may reflect this. You could be required to perform other duties as reasonably required.

You have a responsibility as an employee to report all accidents to the employer immediately. You have a duty to report defects and / or hazards which may give rise to an accident. You are to ensure the safety of the individual at all times.

Due to the nature of the work for which you are applying, this post is subject to a satisfactory DBS disclosure (costs will be covered).
