Summary

Turn Your Psychology Degree into Practical Experience

If you're considering a future career in Educational Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Teaching, Speech & Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy or Mental Health, gaining experience directly supporting young people can be an invaluable next step.

Quokka Education is looking for Psychology graduates to work as SEN Teaching Assistants across mainstream secondary and specialist SEND schools in Winchester.

You don't need previous classroom experience. What matters is that you're patient, empathetic, resilient and genuinely interested in understanding and supporting young people.

You'll work alongside experienced teachers and SEND professionals, supporting students with additional needs and helping them participate successfully in school life.

Your role could involve:

- Providing individual and small-group support.

- Helping students overcome barriers to learning.

- Supporting emotional regulation, behaviour and wellbeing.

- Building positive, consistent relationships with young people.

- Encouraging confidence, independence and engagement.

- Learning how different SEND needs can affect a young person's experience of education.

It's practical, hands-on experience that can give you a much deeper understanding of child development, behaviour and additional needs.

That's absolutely fine.

Quokka Education provides SEND training, CPD and practical toolkits before you start, helping you understand what to expect and giving you strategies you can use in the classroom from day one.

You'll also have the opportunity to complete paid trial days, allowing you to experience the role and school environment before making a longer-term commitment.

You'll have access to:

- Opportunities across mainstream and specialist SEND schools.

- SEND training, CPD and practical resources.

- Paid trial days.

- Ongoing support from an experienced education team.

- Competitive rates of pay.

- Roles that can develop into long-term and permanent opportunities.

This opportunity could be particularly suited to Psychology graduates who:

- Want practical experience working with children or young people.

- Are considering postgraduate study or professional training.

- Have an interest in SEND, behaviour, mental health or child development.

- Communicate confidently and build positive relationships.

- Are patient, resilient and empathetic.

- Want a role where their work can have a meaningful impact.

Previous school experience isn't required. Your approach, willingness to learn and desire to help young people succeed are far more important.

Know another graduate who could be a great fit?

Refer them to Quokka Education and receive £100 once they complete 10 days of work.

Quokka Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All applicants will be vetted in line with DfE guidance, including an Enhanced DBS check and an online search as part of the recruitment process.
