Summary

Location: Bury, Greater Manchester

Salary: £112.50 per day

Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30am-3:30pm

Start Date: September 2026

We are working with a specialist secondary SEN school in Bury to recruit a committed and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting young people with additional needs and wants to work within a specialist environment where personalised support is at the heart of the school day.

You will work alongside experienced teachers and support staff, helping pupils access their education while developing their communication, independence, confidence and social skills.

The Role

- Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with additional needs.

- Support pupils to access classroom-based and practical learning.

- Assist with communication, social development and emotional regulation.

- Support pupils to develop independence and essential life skills.

- Follow individual EHCP targets and personalised support strategies.

- Promote positive behaviour using a calm and consistent approach.

- Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils.

- Work closely with teachers, SEN staff and other professionals.

- Help create a safe, structured and inclusive learning environment.

The Ideal Candidate

- Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN is highly desirable.

- Experience within a specialist school, care setting or similar environment is advantageous.

- Patient, resilient and compassionate in your approach.

- Confident supporting pupils with a range of complex needs.

- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

- Able to use initiative and adapt your approach to individual pupils.

- Passionate about helping young people achieve their potential.

Essential requirement

A valid Child and Adult Enhanced DBS is essential for this role.

Candidates must hold the appropriate Child and Adult Enhanced DBS before commencing the position.
