Commutable from: Richmond, Twickenham, Kew, Mortlake, Barnes, Putney, Chiswick, Hounslow, Kingston upon Thames and surrounding areas.
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive secondary school close to East Richmond. This full-time opportunity is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting young people with additional needs and helping them achieve their full potential in a mainstream secondary setting.
Working closely with the school's SEND and pastoral teams, you will provide targeted support to students with a range of additional learning needs, helping them access the curriculum, build confidence, and develop the skills they need to thrive both academically and socially.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide tailored 1:1 and small-group support for students with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
- Support pupils with Autism (ASC), ADHD, SEMH needs, speech and language difficulties, and other additional learning needs.
- Work alongside class teachers, the SENCO and pastoral staff to deliver personalised learning strategies and interventions.
- Adapt classroom activities and resources to ensure all students can access learning effectively.
- Promote positive behaviour through consistent routines, encouragement and effective behaviour management strategies.
- Assist with implementing EHCP targets and individual support plans.
- Build positive relationships that encourage confidence, independence and engagement with learning.
- Monitor student progress and contribute to regular reviews and feedback with the wider school team.
- Help create a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment where every student can succeed.
- Liaise with parents, carers and external professionals where appropriate to support student outcomes.
Essential Candidate Requirements
- Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant, SEN Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Behaviour Mentor, Youth Worker or Support Worker.
- Experience supporting children or young people with SEND, SEMH or additional learning needs.
- Understanding of Autism, ADHD, behaviour support or trauma-informed practice is desirable.
- Experience working with secondary-aged students is preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with young people.
- Calm, patient and resilient approach when supporting students with varying needs.
- A genuine passion for helping young people achieve their potential.
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
