Pay: £120 per day

A welcoming and supportive school in Rochdale is seeking a dedicated and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026. The school provides a nurturing and inclusive environment for pupils who require additional support with their social, emotional and mental health needs.

The successful candidate will work closely with teaching staff and the wider pastoral team to support pupils both academically and emotionally. The role would suit someone who is passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning, develop positive relationships and build confidence within the school environment.

Key responsibilities:

- Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEMH needs

- Supporting pupils to engage positively with learning and the wider school environment

- Building trusting and consistent relationships with pupils

- Supporting emotional regulation, self-esteem and social development

- Assisting with behaviour management and implementing individual behaviour support plans

- Using positive reinforcement and de-escalation strategies to manage challenging situations

- Supporting pupils who may present with anxiety, low self-esteem, emotional dysregulation or challenging behaviour

- Working closely with teachers, pastoral staff, SENCOs and other professionals

- Helping to create a safe, calm and structured learning environment

- Supporting the implementation of EHCPs and individual support strategies

This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate SEMH Teaching Assistant who is looking to develop their experience within a supportive school setting and make a meaningful impact on pupils' educational and personal development.

The successful applicant will:

- Have previous experience working with children or young people, ideally within an education, care, youth work or SEMH setting

- Have a genuine passion for supporting pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs

- Be calm, patient, resilient and consistent in their approach

- Be confident supporting challenging behaviour and emotional regulation

- Have excellent communication and relationship-building skills

- Be proactive and able to work effectively as part of a team

- Have the ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations

- Have the right to work in the UK and full-time availability

- Experience with behaviour support, de-escalation or restorative approaches is desirable

- A Level 2/3 Supporting Teaching & Learning qualification is desirable but not essential
