Summary
Job Description: Support Worker / Personal Assistant
Location: Lampeter (Work to be undertaken at this location)
Rate of pay: £13.75 per hour
Hours: 2 hours per week
Role Purpose
The purpose of this role is to provide respectful, reliable, and person-centred support to a lady who uses a wheelchair. The support will focus on helping her manage household tasks, enjoy craft activities at home, and, when she feels ready, gradually build confidence to access activities outside the home, including using a swimming pool.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
• Provide practical support with household tasks, which may include light cleaning, tidying, laundry, organising items, and supporting the person to maintain a safe and comfortable home environment.
• Support the person to take part in craft activities at home, helping to prepare materials, set up activities, tidy away afterwards, and encourage enjoyment and independence where possible.
• Offer calm, patient, and understanding support, recognising that the person experiences anxiety and severe OCD.
• Support the person to follow routines and preferences in a respectful way, while promoting choice, dignity, and independence.
• Help the person build confidence at her own pace to consider accessing the community in the future.
• When appropriate and agreed, support the person to go outside and access leisure activities, including attending a swimming pool.
• Provide reassurance and encouragement without pressure, allowing the person to remain in control of decisions and activities.
• Maintain confidentiality and always respect the person’s privacy.
• Communicate clearly and sensitively, reporting any concerns in line with agreed arrangements.
Support Approach
The successful applicant will need to work in a calm, consistent, and sensitive manner. It is important that support is provided at the person’s pace, with patience and understanding of anxiety and OCD. The role requires someone who can be flexible, non-judgemental, and respectful of routines, boundaries, and personal preferences.
