Summary

Please note this is not a Swansea city council job. You will be working with a private client who received direct payments.

A little about myself:

I am a four-and-a-half-year-old boy living in Swansea. I have a diagnosis of non‑verbal autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and Global Developmental Delay. I enjoy activities that help me stay regulated, such as bouncing on my trampoline at home. I also like visiting Brodies soft play area and going to the park for short periods of time. I rely on my carers to meet all my care needs, including personal care and support getting in and out of transport. When in the community, I use a disability buggy to help me get around, as I can become easily distracted, may wander off, and can refuse to walk, especially if I want to go in a different direction.

Female preferred.

Hours of work

6 hours a week.

Rate of pay.

£13.50

Essential:

I need you to:

• Have a good understanding of neurodivergence, including autism spectrum disorder (ASD), is important when supporting me.

• Be able to provide constant supervision, as I have no awareness of danger. If my carer becomes distracted, I may walk into the road or move towards hazards without recognising the risks.

• When in the community, I need my carer to always hold my hand. If something catches my attention, I will try to move towards it without considering safety. I also use a specialist buggy, which supports me during transitions and helps keep me safe.

• When I am dysregulated, I may bite, pinch, or bang my head on the floor. I need a carer who is emotionally attuned and able to provide calm, consistent, and reassuring support during moments of distress or overwhelm.

• When out and about, it is important that my carer brings my tablet (so I can watch Peppa Pig) and snacks, as these help me stay regulated.

• I may find crowded or noisy environments difficult. I need a carer who can recognise this and guide me calmly to a quieter, safer space when needed.

• Due to the level of support I require, the role of my personal assistant is physically active, and it is important that my career is physically able to meet my needs.

• To build trust through empathy, patience, and a genuine ability to connect with me.

Desirable

I’d prefer if:

• You understand the importance of consistency and provides support with kindness and respect.

I’d like support with

• Accessing the community and visit places that match my interests.

• Help that makes me feel safe, calm, and reassured in new, busy, or unpredictable environments.

• Opportunities to develop independence outside of my family and school, as I currently have limited social interaction beyond these settings.

I will need my PA to:

Respect and understand the importance of privacy and confidentiality.

Be confident, mature and have patience.

Be dependable and arrive on time and communicate if there is an issue.

Be friendly with an easy-going manner.

Be adaptable and flexible.

Be supportive but not take over.

Have business insurance on your car to take clients out.

Concerning the position

A trial period will be necessary in the first instance in the form of a six-month probationary period. Salary will be paid monthly (Annual leave is calculated on a pro rata basis). A DBS MUST be processed prior to any commencement of employment. Costs of DBS will be met by Swansea council where applicant is eligible.
