DWP’s Digital Group is looking for experienced Data Engineers to fill post of BI Developer.
A fantastic opportunity to develop your skillset by:
- Working in a high-profile Digital Data Team delivering business critical BAU data and reporting products for the Child Maintenance Service (CMS), which are a key enabler in CMS delivering a quality service to customers and to Ministers.
- Supporting the migration of ChADS to Cloud based technologies.
- Developing your skillset in a range of Big Data and Cloud based technologies.
Successful candidates will join a fast-paced environment with a wide portfolio of products for analytical use and a challenging delivery roadmap. You’ll focus on a variety of tasks, supporting platform live service and delivering high quality, data transformation products.
We’re looking for a motivated Power BI Developer to join our data team, supporting the Child Maintenance Service (CMS). This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working with data, building meaningful dashboards, and contributing to services that have a real positive impact on children and families.
This role has been created as part of our continued investment in modern data platforms and reporting capabilities, helping CMS make better, faster, evidence‑based decisions.
You’ll join a cross‑functional team of around 30 people, mainly based in Newcastle upon Tyne, working across data engineering, analytics, and delivery. The team uses SAS technologies alongside a new strategic Big Data stack, including Cloudera, Informatica, Power BI, and machine learning tools.
What you’ll be working on
You’ll help design and deliver dashboards and reports used by operational teams, analysts, and senior stakeholders to:
- Monitor service performance.
- Identify trends and risks.
- Improve outcomes and efficiency across CMS.
Your work will directly support decision‑making in a service that plays a vital role in supporting children and families across the UK.
Your role in the team
Working in an Agile environment, you’ll have the autonomy to:
- Design and develop robust, scalable Power BI solutions.
- Own the stability and performance of the products you build.
- Lead and support other developers within the squad.
- Collaborate with designers, testers, data engineers, and business stakeholders to shape solutions end to end.
Key responsibilities
- Develop, design, and maintain interactive dashboards and reports using Power BI.
- Manage and monitor dataset refreshes, resolving issues quickly.
- Publish and maintain reports in Power BI Service, including access management.
- Optimise report performance and data models.
- Implement and maintain coding standards.
- Raise and resolve risks and issues appropriately.
- Communicate clearly with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Actively participate in sprint ceremonies and prioritisation.
- Coach and mentor junior team members.
Experience with AWS data services such as S3 and Redshift is desirable but not essential.
