Summary

Our services are largely delivered by nurses with support from specialist doctors. The Service activity of approximately 39,000 patient contacts annually is achieved by an establishment of 59.14wte staff and a budget of £4,364,940. Key responsibilities are: Delivering Genitourinary Medicine, HIV outpatient and Contraception services for Northumbria Healthcare Sexual Health Service in keeping with competencies and experience. Working with professional colleagues and local managers to ensure the efficient running of a high-quality Sexual Health Service. Actively contributing to robust, efficient and effective service leadership. Playing a significant role in ensuring good clinical governance within the Service and leading and participating in audit, research and quality improvement activity. Participating in the management of change, ensuring a responsive and flexible service to enable all staff to adapt and contribute fully. Providing specialist advice on GUM, contraceptive and sexual health matters to GPs and other medical and non-medical staff, internally and externally. Supporting specialist nurses with complex cases and the delivery of the nurse-led, service model. Performing vasectomies in clinic with appropriate training if required. Contributing to the teaching of medical students, nurses and the provision of education and support to staff in Primary and Secondary Care in order to improve access to sexual health services in these settings. Liaising with the Senior Management Team and other members of staff on matters of policy and procedure. Playing a lead role in facilitating service delivery and development in the context of national and regional strategies and priorities and contractual obligations.
