Summary

The post holder will be expected to: Design and conduct clinical research focused on Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) and advanced therapies for movement disorders. Assist with patient assessment, surgical planning, and DBS programming, contributing to the delivery of high-quality patient care. Support the clinical activities of the Functional Neurosurgery Unit, including the pre-operative and post-operative management of patients undergoing DBS. Contribute to the publication of research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present work at national and international conferences. Lead and participate in quality improvement initiatives, service evaluations, and the development of clinical protocols for DBS programmes. Attend and actively contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings, journal clubs, and academic presentations. Participate in the teaching and training activities of the Functional Neurosurgery service. Act as an expert advisor to DBS Nurse Specialists regarding the assessment and management of the physical, psychological, and social support needs of patients undergoing functional neurosurgical procedures. Review patient treatments and implement changes in accordance with recommendations from the responsible neurologist or specialist nurse, as appropriate. Contribute to the development and implementation of local and national policies, guidelines, and standards of practice relating to Functional Neurosurgery and movement disorders. Identify opportunities to enhance the treatment, care, and support provided to patients with movement disorders and their carers, contributing to ongoing service development and innovation. Work collaboratively with neurology, neurosurgery, research, and allied health colleagues to improve patient outcomes and advance clinical practice in the field of Functional Neurosurgery.
