Cover People are recruiting a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist primary setting in Salford. This rewarding role involves supporting pupils aged 5-11 who have SEMH needs and Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), as well as pupils who have experienced challenges in mainstream education. The school provides a nurturing, structured environment focused on emotional wellbeing, positive relationships and academic progress.
The Role:
- Support pupils with SEMH needs both in and out of the classroom.
- Build positive, trusting relationships that encourage engagement and progress.
- Provide 1:1 and small group support tailored to individual needs.
- Assist teachers in delivering personalised learning activities and interventions.
- Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour using restorative and nurturing approaches.
- Work closely with teaching staff, families and external professionals to support pupil outcomes.
The Ideal Candidate:
- Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND or challenging behaviour.
- A calm, patient and resilient approach.
- Strong communication and behaviour management skills.
- A genuine passion for helping vulnerable children succeed.
- Team Teach training is desirable but not essential.
