Summary
We are looking for a compassionate and reliable Personal Assistant/Companion to support an older lady living in Leamington. She has microcephaly, a condition caused by rubella during pregnancy, which has resulted in a significant learning disability. Her IQ has been assessed at 38, and she understands the world in a similar way to a young child. In addition, she is blind in one eye, wears two hearing aids, and has a speech impediment. Although it can take a little time to become familiar with her speech, most people adapt quickly. She is a lively, friendly, and well-socialised lady with a great sense of humour. She is generous, enjoys company, and forms meaningful relationships with those who support her. Her previous PA worked with her for eight years, and they developed a very close friendship. Following a recent move to Leamington, she would benefit from support to engage in a wider range of community activities. Without regular stimulation and social interaction, she can become withdrawn, lethargic, and low in mood. She currently attends two weekly music sessions at Netherfields, each lasting two hours, and these have a very positive impact on her wellbeing. The role would focus on companionship and encouraging participation in enjoyable activities, including: Attending community-based activities and groups Going shopping Taking walks in the local area Completing jigsaws and other activities at home Supporting simple cooking and baking activities Building confidence and encouraging social engagement No personal care is required, as all personal care needs are met by family members at home. We are seeking someone patient, kind, and enthusiastic, who is willing to develop a trusting relationship and support her to lead an active, fulfilling, and enjoyable life.
