We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Housing Standards Officer to join our Housing team under the WCR 3 BASE grade. Responsibilities
Conduct inspections of residential properties to assess compliance with housing standards and legislation.
Investigate complaints relating to poor housing conditions, overcrowding, and unsafe living environments.
Enforce housing health and safety regulations by issuing notices, improvement orders, and taking legal action where necessary.
Collaborate with landlords, tenants, and other stakeholders to resolve housing issues effectively and amicably.
Maintain accurate records of inspections, enforcement actions, and case progress using designated systems.
Provide expert advice and guidance to property owners and residents on housing standards and legal requirements.
Participate in multi-agency initiatives and community outreach to promote awareness of housing standards and tenant rights.
Prepare detailed reports and present cases at tribunals or court hearings when required.
Requirements
Excellent knowledge of housing legislation, including housing health and safety rating systems.
Proven experience in property inspection, enforcement, or housing standards roles.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Ability to work independently, manage a caseload, and prioritize tasks efficiently.
Good investigative skills with attention to detail and sound judgment in decision-making.
Proficiency in maintaining accurate records and report writing.
Full, valid driving licence to travel to properties within the designated area.
Ability to work within legal frameworks and follow established protocols confidently.
