Summary

The post holder will provide a specialist dietetic service to adults receiving care within Older Adult and Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) inpatient services, delivering evidence-based nutritional assessment, treatment and ongoing management for individuals with complex mental and physical health needs. The role includes independently managing a complex caseload, developing and reviewing person-centred nutrition care plans, monitoring outcomes, and providing specialist advice to patients, carers and the multidisciplinary team. The Dietitian will work collaboratively with ward teams to improve nutrition screening, oral nutritional support, weight management and the management of long-term physical health conditions associated with severe mental illness. The post holder will contribute to multidisciplinary meetings, discharge planning and onward referrals to community and specialist services to ensure continuity of care. The role also includes delivering nutrition education and training for clinical staff, developing patient information resources, supporting nutrition-related audits, and leading or contributing to quality improvement and service development initiatives to enhance patient safety and outcomes. The post holder will supervise junior staff and students, maintain accurate clinical records, participate in clinical audit and research activities, and ensure practice is delivered in accordance with HCPC standards, British Dietetic Association guidance, and Trust policies.
