Summary
As a chaperone you will be responsible for attending first dates, friendship matches or small group meet-ups, to support members of Meet N Match Friendship and Dating agency, who have learning disabilities or who are autistic. You will be responsible for initiating introductions, helping members to begin interacting with each other and then providing background support and encouragement during their meet up.
During a first date or friendship match, our chaperones help by introducing members,
initiating those first conversations and making sure that the members feel empowered and supported. Once conversation is established, we encourage our chaperones to monitor from a distance; checking in at certain points with the members and being ready to step in if support is needed to maintain conversation or to help bring the meet-up to a natural end.
Each date and meet-up is different and each member too, so some meet-ups require more chaperone involvement than others. However, the aim of our service is to help with the initial introductions, help the members to build their confidence and communication skills whilst allowing as much privacy to enjoy their meet-up as possible.
Chaperones are not there to provide individual personal care and anyone requiring this
must bring their own support with them. However, chaperones can help with practical
support such as reading a menu, ordering at the counter and helping to start conversations.
This is a casual role and no fixed weekly hours as need is dependent on members
