Assistant Production Manager
Location: Stoke-On-Trent
Salary: Up to £42,000 per annum
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am - 5:30pm
About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Assistant Production Manager to join a well-established manufacturing business. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll support the day-to-day management of production operations across two manufacturing sites, ensuring production runs safely, efficiently, and in line with customer requirements.
Working closely with the Production Manager, you'll lead and develop small production teams, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and play an active role on the shop floor to help achieve operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Support the planning and coordination of daily production activities across two manufacturing sitesEnsure production targets are achieved while maintaining quality, efficiency and safety standardsMonitor production performance and resolve operational issues to minimise downtimeAdapt production plans to meet changing customer demands and business prioritiesProvide hands-on support within production when requiredLead, motivate and develop small multi-skilled production teamsAllocate labour effectively to maximise productivity and operational efficiencyPromote a positive, collaborative and accountable working environmentEnsure compliance with Health & Safety policies, procedures and safe working practicesCarry out workplace inspections and support investigations into accidents and near missesMonitor product quality, investigate non-conformances and support corrective actionsAssist with cost control by reducing waste, improving efficiencies and supporting continuous improvement initiativesMonitor production KPIs and identify opportunities to improve performanceMaintain accurate stock levels and support inventory control and stock countsLiaise with internal departments including Purchasing, Sales Administration and Accounts to ensure smooth operational performanceProvide regular production updates to senior managementWhat We're Looking For
Previous experience in a Production Supervisor, Assistant Production Manager or similar leadership role within a manufacturing environmentExperience managing batch production or multi-product manufacturing processesStrong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop teamsGood understanding of production planning and schedulingExcellent knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and best practiceExperience monitoring production performance, KPIs and quality standardsStock control and inventory management experienceStrong organisational, problem-solving and decision-making skillsGood IT skills, including Microsoft OfficeFull UK driving licence and willingness to travel between two local manufacturing sitesDesirable
IOSH Managing Safely or a similar Health & Safety qualificationExperience with continuous improvement or lean manufacturing techniquesBackground within material processing, manufacturing, recycling, coatings, minerals or similar industriesForklift licence or other relevant plant operation qualificationsIf you're a proactive manufacturing professional who enjoys leading teams and driving operational excellence, we'd love to hear from you.
