Miltoncross is an academy at the heart of its community that has very high aspirations for all of its staff and students. We

operate by the core values of Work Hard. Be Kind. No Excuses in order to foster a learning community where everybody values each

other and everybody values the power of learning. We offer a supportive and collegiate working environment where we all have the

same goal - outstanding learning for children. We are now one year into building a fresh, optimistic and sustainable culture where

staff and students are always fulfilled because they know that they are doing their best work for the right reasons. Our systems

and structures are designed to liberate staff and students, freeing us all up from the challenges of uncertainty and relentless

workload which in turn enables creativity, excitement and essentially, it makes coming to school enjoyable for all!

To understand this better, do ask to read our Blueprint for Brilliance which outlines everything we do, why and how. This could

really help you make an informed decision about whether this is your next career move or not. We think it should be! Staff and

students enjoy their days in excellent modern buildings with superb facilities. We are located on the West of Portsmouth and

access is easy from the M27 or A27. Many staff commute easily from Southampton, Hampshire, Isle of Wight and West Sussex either by

car or by public transport.

The Role

TKAT ACE - a champion for every child - provides a 1:1 tutor for each disadvantaged pupil and their family in our school. This

will include supporting students with attendance, structured session focussing on engagement, aspirations and support. Helping

students build positive habits At Miltoncross Academy we are resolutely dedicated to ensuring that those students most in need are

very well supported to succeed academically in school. It is our ambition that all of our disadvantaged students leave school with

academic qualifications that match their more affluent peers and that their success is never hampered by any existing

disadvantage. To do that, we alongside all other TKAT Academies are breaking the mould by developing our, A Champion for Everyone

(ACE) programme. This programme allocates disadvantaged students with a dedicated in-school academic tutor whose role is to help

their tutees overcome barriers to strong outcomes. This is done by meeting each tutee on a regular basis, setting goals, liaising

with teachers, monitoring attendance and progress and liaising very closely with parents and families alongside any additional

practical support such as providing equipment, referrals and checking and supporting with homework. This role is key to our

strategy to raise disadvantaged students’ outcomes and the successful applicant will report directly to and work closely with our

other Ace Tutors and Senior Ace lead.

The successful candidate will be working in an established team of four other tutors and so will need to be a strong team player

who is willing and keen to help and support others. It is a role that has the potential for the right candidate to be hugely

rewarding but it does require staff who are very strong, empathetic listeners and communicators and who are determined in seeking

the very best for their tutees.

Please be aware that if we receive suitable applicants we reserve the right to interview candidates early and if appropriate close

the advert before the listed closing date. As such if you are interested in the role we would recommend applying at the earliest

opportunity. Full safeguarding and tutoring training will be given alongside clear line management and team meetings to ensure

significant impact of your work is achieved. This is a really exciting opportunity to work 1-1 with students and make a real

difference to young people’s lives. We intend to continue scaling up our ACE tutoring programme until 100% of disadvantaged

students have an ACE Tutor.

Miltoncross is a cheerful place to work where everybody pulls in the same direction and works hard to ensure that we give our

students the excellent service that they deserve. If you wish to discuss the role or come for a look round, please contact the

Deputy Head Teacher (Hayley Forbes) at hayley.forbes@miltoncross-tkat.org.
