Current and recurring requirements may arise within specialties including:

General Medicine

Orthogeriatrics and Elderly Care

Haematology

General Surgery

Anaesthetics

Psychiatry

Emergency and unscheduled care

Other medical and surgical specialties

Opportunities may be available across Belfast, Antrim, Coleraine, Newtownards, Lisburn and other Northern Ireland locations, subject to current HSC Trust requirements.

This advert covers opportunities at two separate SAS grades:

Specialty Doctor

Specialist Doctor

These are distinct grades with different levels of required experience, autonomy and responsibility. Applicants will only be considered for assignments matching their qualifications, specialty experience, demonstrated competencies and appropriate professional grade.

Assignments may include short-term vacancy cover, rota gaps, sickness or annual-leave cover, additional clinical capacity and longer-term service requirements.

Depending on the specialty, grade and agreed assignment, responsibilities may include:

Assessing, investigating, diagnosing and managing patients within the relevant specialty.

Formulating and reviewing evidence-based clinical management plans.

Providing direct clinical care within the doctor’s verified scope of practice.

Managing complex clinical presentations and uncertainty at the level appropriate to the assigned grade.

Participating in consultant-led ward rounds, outpatient clinics, theatre sessions, diagnostic activity and multidisciplinary meetings.

Supporting acute admissions, inpatient care, discharge planning and continuity of care.

Participating in emergency, out-of-hours, weekend or on-call rotas where required.

Undertaking clinical procedures appropriate to the doctor’s training, competence and authorised scope of practice.

Providing clear clinical leadership, advice and escalation within the multidisciplinary team.

Supervising, supporting and teaching junior doctors and other healthcare professionals where required by the role.

Maintaining accurate, timely and confidential clinical records.

Completing referrals, correspondence, reports and other patient-related administration.

Using EPIC, Encompass or other Trust-approved electronic patient record systems where applicable.

Participating in clinical governance, audit, appraisal, revalidation, quality improvement and patient-safety activities.

Contributing to service development and implementation of clinical guidelines where required.

Following GMC professional standards, safeguarding responsibilities, infection prevention procedures and HSC Trust policies.

Recognising and reporting patient-safety concerns, incidents or risks through the appropriate clinical governance arrangements.

Doctors appointed to Specialist Doctor assignments may be expected to demonstrate a higher level of independent or autonomous practice, clinical leadership, service development, teaching and management of complex cases. The exact scope of practice and responsibilities will be defined by the individual job plan and client requirements.

All doctors must work within their demonstrated competence, comply with local clinical governance arrangements and seek appropriate advice or escalation when required.

This is temporary medical locum agency work. The availability, location, duration, rota and hours of individual assignments depend on HSC Trust requirements and cannot be guaranteed.

Payment will normally be made through PAYE. Individual assignments may be determined by the client to fall inside IR35.

Everest Recruitment & Services Ltd does not provide visa sponsorship. Applicants must already have the legal right to work in the UK and undertake the proposed assignment.

Applicants with time-limited immigration permission must provide evidence that the proposed role, working hours and arrangements are permitted under their existing immigration conditions.
