Experienced Herdsperson & Farm Worker - West Midlands - £30,000 - £35,000 DOE + Accommodation

The Job:

We're recruiting on behalf of a well established land based college seeking an experienced Herdsperson & Farm Worker to join its progressive commercial farm. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a modern agricultural education environment, combining hands on farming with the opportunity to support and inspire the next generation of farmers. The farm operates as a commercial enterprise while providing practical learning opportunities for students.

The college has invested heavily in herd health, breeding technology and farm infrastructure, creating an excellent environment for both livestock and staff.

Key responsibilities:

- Milking, livestock husbandry and daily herd management

- Calf rearing and supporting the sheep enterprise, including lambing

- Monitoring animal health and administering treatments where required

- Feeding, bedding and caring for livestock to the highest welfare standards

- Operating tractors, farm machinery and carrying out general field and arable work

- Maintaining farm buildings, equipment and machinery

- Supporting accurate farm records, biosecurity and legislative compliance

- Working closely with the Farm Manager to maintain excellent farm performance

- Assisting teaching staff by supporting practical learning activities for students when required

- Participating in a rota including weekends and occasional late-night livestock checks

The Candidate:

- Previous experience as a Herdsperson or experienced Farm Worker within a commercial dairy enterprise

- Strong milking and livestock handling skills

- Experience with calf rearing and general livestock husbandry

- The ability to identify animal health issues and maintain high welfare standards

- Experience operating tractors and agricultural machinery

- A proactive, reliable approach with the ability to work independently and as part of a team

- Good communication skills and a willingness to work alongside students and teaching staff in a college environment

- Flexibility to work weekends and adapt to seasonal farming requirements

The Package:

- Salary £30,000 - £35,000 DOE

Candidate Requirements

All applicants must hold a minimum of an NVQ Level 2, Scottish NVQ Level 2, or an equivalent qualification relevant to the role applied for. Candidates must also have the legal right to work in the UK or hold a valid visa permitting employment.
