Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for 5 permanent posts for Band 5 Theatre Practitioners to join our Women's and Children's theatre team. Applicants need to be registered Operating Department Practitioners or Nurses with an interest in women's and children's services.

The post holder will form part of a flexible, multi-skilled team delivering inpatient and day case surgery to both elective and emergency patients, in a unique environment within the acute hospital setting.

The post holder will provide high quality perioperative care across a range of specialties including:

Gynaecology : Uro-gynae ,oncology, fertility cases and medical terminations of pregnancies

Breast surgeries -for both male and female patients

Paediatrics: General, endoscopies, ENT, Max-fax, Orthopaedics, Dentals, Hand, Botox injections, Ophthalmology and MRI

Obstetrics: 24 hour Emergency service (Caesarean Section, Forceps Delivery, Repair of Perineal Tears and management of Maternal Obstetric Haemorrhages and other complications following normal deliveries) and elective Caesarean sections

The post involves working a range of shift patterns to support a 24/7 service, covering both emergency and elective procedures.

In addition, the role includes participation in the on-call rota, providing overnight cover from 20:00 to 08:00.

The department undertakes complex cases, including extended theatre sessions that may run across three operating lists and can continue beyond the standard finish time of 20:45.

The role requires the individual to work within our multidisciplinary team providing high quality, individualised, perioperative patient care in both adult and paediatric theatres, care within the remit of Trust policies and procedures, with an opportunity to develop and extend skills across a variety of specialities.

The post holder must deliver safe, effective perioperative care in either anaesthetics or scrub roles or both.

The post holder will ensure safe preparation and use of theatre equipment and instrumentation.

Maintain the highest standards of infection prevention and control within the theatre environment by adhering to aseptic technique and sterile practices at all times.

The post holder must participate in WHO Surgical Safety Checklist and maintain patient safety standards.

The role involves monitoring patient's condition and escalate appropriately including maintaining accurate documentation in line with Trust policies.

The post holder is expected to maintain their professional/essential development within the scope of their individual appraisal and according to service needs.

The department also facilitates a wide variety of learners and there is a desirability for the post holder to support/mentor them as appropriate.
