Summary

A Vacancy at South West London and St George's Mental Health NHS Trust.

We are recruiting an Occupational Therapist (OT) Part time with expertise in older persons care to work within the Liaison Psychiatry Service in the acute general hospital.

Applicants will require knowledge and experience of managing dementia and other mental health difficulties commonly found in older people. Knowledge of older people’s physical health problems is also required. The role involves autonomously carrying out generic mental health assessments and treatments while working closely with the Older People’s Specialist’s within the service.

We are also able to provide some short-term follow up care/home visits within the community. This role provides a mental health OT specialist within the general hospital. The post involves fostering staff relationships and supporting and working closely with our physical health colleagues and the care of the elderly wards.

You will, where necessary, carry out joint OT assessments to support the physical OT’s. The OT service within the trust uses the Model of Human Occupation to shape its assessments and overall approach.

You must be comfortable working flexibly, both autonomously and in a team. Teaching informally and formally is part of the role. Continuous Professional Development and regular professional supervision are a priority for the Trust. You will receive regular supervision working within this role. The successful candidate will join our Trust wider Occupational Therapy service which includes our acute and urgent care, community, CAMHS and All age eating Disorders and Specialist service lines. We meet quarterly for Occupational Therapy training events which have recently included training around sensory profiling and MOHO. We

have regular OT forums for professional support and development and can arrange staff to shadow OTs in other services for development opportunities.

• To manage a caseload of clients with complex needs, using evidence based/client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.

• To carry out joint OT assessments to support the physical health OT’s when required.

• To provide a variety of interventions including direct clinical work with patients, support for families and carers and consultation across the wider professional networks.

• To provide short-term follow up care for patients in their own homes when required.

• To participate in the planning, development and evaluation of OT services within the identified service, holding responsibility for defined projects.

• To contribute to the maintenance and development of the Trust OT Service.

• To regularly supervise OT students on practice placement.

• To promote Recovery & Social Inclusion.

• To act as the designated ‘Disability Champion’, leading the multi-disciplinary team in Disability Equality matters within the service and other areas as required.

• To contribute from an occupational therapy perspective to individual care plans

• To maintain accurate and timely clinical records

• To participate in multidisciplinary meetings bringing the Occupational therapy perspective to MDT discussions
