Housing Assistant – Role Summary

Salary: £25,776 per year
Contract: Full-time (37.5 hours per week), fixed-term until 30 October 2027
DBS Requirement: Standard DBS check
Purpose of the Role
The Housing Assistant supports Supported Housing Officers and the Housing Service Manager in delivering effective housing management services for vulnerable residents. The role is primarily administrative and operational, ensuring accurate records, compliance, income management, and coordination between housing teams and external agencies.
Key Responsibilities
Income Management
Monitor rent and service charge accounts.
Identify and support early intervention for low-level rent arrears.
Generate arrears letters and assist with payment plans.
Liaise with Housing Benefit departments regarding claims and payments.
Maintain accurate records of income-related actions and communications.
Support former tenant arrears recovery and overpayment invoice processes.
Legal and Compliance Support
Prepare and organise legal documents, notices, and court paperwork.
Monitor legal deadlines and notice expiry dates.
Assist with audits by ensuring records are accurate and up to date.
Administrative and Operational Support
Enter and maintain housing data and records.
Help prepare performance reports on arrears, voids, and compliance.
Provide regional cover during staff absences.
Attend meetings, supervision sessions, and training.
Occasionally travel to housing services as required.
Represent Nacro professionally at all times.
Skills and Experience Required
Basic understanding of housing management processes.
Knowledge of rent arrears and Housing Benefit processes (desirable).
Strong administration and organisational skills.
Good written and verbal communication.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Office and case management systems.
Understanding of confidentiality and data protection.
Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
