This service provides short term Inpatient nursing and therapy services to patients admitted for rehabilitation, reablement and recovery promoting independence and encouraging integration back to the community. 1 fixed term post in Infectious Diseases/Tropical Medicine at UCLH is available from 9/11/26-3/9/27. The post involves working in the inpatient ward teams under the supervision of Infectious diseases Consultants, and in the Hospital for Tropical Diseases outpatient clinics. This provides a unique opportunity to work in the national referral centre for Tropical Medicine and tertiary Infectious Diseases service. This post would be ideal for someone to expand their existing infectious diseases training as an OOPT, or an individual who is looking to gain experience in Tropical Medicine/Infectious Diseases with a view to pursuing specialty training in Infectious Diseases. We require someone who has current GMC registration. The key responsibility is to work in the Hospital Tropical Diseases outpatient department, and inpatient infection service at UCLH. This provides unparalleled experience of managing tropical and imported infections as well as complex UK acquired infection. The post includes attendance at the rich program of learning and training opportunities throughout the week. Additionally, the successful candidates will be on SpR the on-call rota for Infectious Diseases at registrar level this, including ward cover for ID inpatients, and admitting referrals to ID from the Emergency Department, as well as providing advice over the phone to referring hospitals with the support of the on call consultant. The post will allow for valuable experience managing infectious presentations as well as strengthening core general medical skills. The UCLH Division of Infection includes the inpatient and outpatient infectious diseases & tropical medicine services, including and centered around the Hospital for Tropical Diseases (HTD) which is the national referral centre for tropical medicine. Other key elements in the Division include the Dept of Infection Prevention & Control, the Find & Treat service and the NaTHNaC travel advice centre. The clinical infectious disease services manages patients with community-acquired infections from North London, inpatients with conditions related to their HIV infection, complex infections in patients with other forms of immunocompromised, patients requiring long-term intravenous antibiotics at home (OPAT service), as well as tropical and other parasitological conditions, a pre-travel clinic and an open access returning traveller clinic. The Infectious Diseases Service shares ward T08 with the respiratory and rheumatology firms. There is also a dedicated out-patient department at Mortimer Market and an emergency walk in clinic run by trainees with consultant oversight. The service is delivered by a range of clinical staff, including consultants many of whom are also academics at UCL or LSHTM, trainees, clinical nurse specialists and others. There are strong academic relationships with both universities and opportunities for collaborative research · Working at ST3 level in the Hospital for Tropical Diseases outpatient clinics, and T8 ward UCLH inpatient infectious diseases service, under the supervision of an ID Consultant, and within the MDT which includes nurses, pharmacists AHP’s and FY1’s and IMT’s. · Participating in a 1:9 out of hours on call rota for ID, The post is associated with 1:9 rota for non resident out of hours cover from 5pm to 9am Mon-Fri and 9am-9pm Sat & Sun. Duties during out of hours cover include management of inpatients under the ID and tropical teams and admission of infected patients through the Emergency Dept . · Support of other learning opportunities for example the monthly histopathology meeting and other general governance activities will be expected of the fellows such as presenting case at the mortality review meetings. · Opportunities for quality improvement projects and support of ongoing research projects are also available.
