The Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance is looking for an enthusiastic and committed Project Manager to scope, develop and deliver a programme of work which looks to improve the rate of early detection and diagnosis for patients with cancer in Greater Manchester. The Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance wants more people than ever to reduce their risk of developing cancer. For those diagnosed, we want to improve survival outcomes and experiences through earlier diagnosis, better treatment and supporting people to live well with and beyond cancer. The NHS Long Term Plan includes an ambition to diagnose 75% of cancers at stage 1 or 2. We have an ambitious programme of work in place working across the GM system to achieve this. The Pathway Improvement Project Manager post is key to achievement of this ambition. Our Alliance brings together clinical and managerial leaders from health and social care organisations across the region, alongside patient representatives, and other partners, including VCSFE (voluntary, community, faith, and social enterprise) organisations. This is an exciting time for applicants with experience in a similar project management role to join our team. The successful candidate will work alongside 2 well-established pathway improvement project managers as well as with the wider team. The post is full-time although flexible working will be considered. The contract will be up until 31st March 2026. Secondment requests will be considered. The Pathway Improvement Project Manager will work with the Greater Manchester Cancer Pathway Boards and the Cancer Alliance Early Diagnosis Team to scope and develop a programme of work which looks to improve the proportion of patients diagnosed at an early stage. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The Project Manager will support the GM Cancer Early Diagnosis team in the scoping, developments, and delivery of a range of projects to deliver improvements to the rate of early diagnosis of cancer. The Project Manager will function as a conduit between the Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance team and the GM system in issues relating to Early Diagnosis, in particular new and innovative projects. Working with stakeholders, you will agree requirements and scope for specific projects and lead delivery from initiation through to transition into business as usual. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to new security deliverables across the Science Museum Group. Alongside senior representatives from our Estates and Security Teams, you will deliver infrastructure changes to our museum whilst reviewing process and procedure change. Although the role is based in Manchester or York, occasional travel to other museums within the Science Museum Group will be required. You will maintain project momentum to ensure delivery on time, within scope and within budget. You will also ensure that any changes are managed through clear and robust governance structures. Working with the wider ICT PMO, you will manage stakeholders across the ICT team and the wider organisation through regular formal and informal communication. You will use your experience to support and lead technical project teams in a hybrid working environment, helping to maintain productivity and meet key targets. This is a full-time, fixed-term role until 31 March 2028, with a salary of £49,379 per annum. You can be based at either the Science and Industry Museum in Manchester or the National Railway Museum in York. The role offers hybrid working, with two days a week on site and three working from home. You'll also need to travel regularly between our museums across the North of England. About you We're keen to see applications from candidates who have hands-on, applied project management experience and can hit the ground running. As this is a fixed-term role, we're looking for someone who can step in, get to grips with the project quickly and have a clear project plan in place from the outset. You'll have a proven track record of delivering ICT infrastructure projects using best-practice methods such as PRINCE2 and Agile, or equivalent. Experience of security-focused projects, such as CCTV, access control, intruder alarms and their associated security protocols, would be a real advantage. However, if your background is in wider infrastructure delivery, we'd still love to hear from you. You'll be comfortable managing budgets, weighing up complex risks and issues, and replanning to keep things moving when the unexpected happens. Just as important is how you bring people with you. This project involves a wide range of stakeholders across ICT, Estates, Security and beyond, each with their own priorities. We're looking for someone who can pull those requirements together into a shared plan, build strong relationships, and push back with confidence when needed. You'll be highly organised and a natural communicator across disciplines, whether on the phone, in meetings, over email or in writing. You'll keep the right people informed at the right time, and you'll produce clear reporting at every level, from day-to-day project updates through to papers for senior governance boards.
