    An exciting opportunity has arise to join a team of neuropsychologists, assistant psychologists and undergraduate placement students delivering a regional and supra-regional adult and paediatric neuropsychological service in a specialist neurosciences centre. The post-holder will have/develop a sub-specialty interest in epilepsy surgery and awake craniotomy surgery for brain tumours, and will have a primary responsibility for providing a service to those teams. The post holder will also undertake specialist neuropsychological assessment, rehabilitation and therapy of patients with neurological and neurosurgical conditions and to their families and carers, referred by neurologists, gerontologists, psychiatrists general practitioners and others, both from within Oxford University Hospitals Trust and externally. • To provide expert neuropsychological and rehabilitation assessments of patients, based on the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological and neuropsychological tests, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with patients, family members and others involved in the client’s care. Clinical work may require intense concentration over prolonged periods in a potentially constrained position and will frequently involve working with highly distressed patients. • To make highly skilled evaluations about treatment options including elective surgery in conjunction with the MDT taking into account theoretical and therapeutic models, psychometric data and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes. • To administer a range of highly specialised neuropsychological and psychometric tests assessing cognitive functions and emotional wellbeing, including setting up and manipulating materials involving fine motor dexterity; conducting prolonged observations of clients’ abilities, emotional state and behaviour during neuropsychological examinations with commensurate recording, documentation and appropriate dissemination of clinical findings and opinion. The Neuropsychology department is situated in the Russell Cairns Unit on Level 3 of the John Radcliffe West Wing and is built on strong teamwork. Each neuropsychologist has responsibility for designated specialist clinics with associated MDTs and is expected to share the general referral demand as appropriate. The department works closely with colleagues in Neurosurgery, Neurology, Neurophysiology, Neuroradiology and Neuropathology, as well as with colleagues in Psychological Medicine. The CED/PAU departments have consultant cover 5 days a week with cover between 0800-2200 and one day of the weekend 1100-1900. Prospective cover is used to cover gaps in the service created by leave and ward consultant attending weeks. The number of PAs for CED/PAU shifts is inclusive to reflect prospective cover. We are looking for an enthusiastic Haematologist to join our well established, dedicated and supportive team. The successful candidate will join a team of nine consultants supported by four registrars from the North East London rotation and five clinical fellows to serve a population of 750,000. Any consultant who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues. The post holder will have training and expertise in both malignant and non-malignant aspects of haematology and will be expected to provide the following services to a high standard: • Triage of electronic referrals from primary care including advice to GP colleagues, and acceptance of appropriate referrals on routine, urgent and suspected cancer pathways • Undertake three outpatient clinics per week • Attend and participate in an MDT relevant to your specialist area • Support the diagnostic service and complete in-house reporting of bone marrows • Attend and participate in weekly morphology review • Manage acutely unwell patients on the dedicated haematology and oncology ward as well as outlying wards and the day unit.     We have a vacancy arise for a Consultant post in Cellular Pathology. This will be based be based at Royal Preston Hospital. and is a full time, permanent post. The working week will be - Monday-Friday 9am to 5pm with no expectation of providing on call for this post. The successful applicant will join our team of consultants and will be required to provide a comprehensive histopathology service. You would not be required to report neuropathology cases. You will also be required to develop specialist interests to complement the existing specialist Cancer services. You will be expected to co-operate with other members of the Pathology Directorate to ensure effective administrative arrangements are made in the laboratory, which will include: - • Recruitment and appointment of junior medical staff, BMSs and secretarial staff having dealings with the histopathology department. • The arrangement of rosters of staff, the allocation of duties to them and their instruction in necessary organisational matters. • Co-ordination with staff in other professional disciplines and health care workers outside the hospital. • Attendance at Board meetings and other committees when pathology issues are being discussed and to participate in resource management. • Continuing management responsibility by agreement with other consultants in the Cellular Pathology Department, specifically for the service in his/her charge and for administrative duties associated with these services and the proper functioning of the department, though he/she may delegate certain responsibilities to the senior staff within the department. We are in collaboration discussion with the other 3 trusts in Lancashire and Cumbria including Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust and Morecambe Bay Hospitals NHS Trust. A central laboratory Hub has been proposed. Modern Education Centres are based at both Royal Preston and Chorley and South Ribble Hospital sites and offer excellent library and study facilities, including PC/Internet support for staff and students as well as high tech simulation facilities. All new Consultants are actively encouraged to be research active and supported in every way to carry out research in this trust. All newly appointed substantive consultants are enrolled on the award-winning Consultant Leadership Programme and as part of that, mentorship is available. All consultants have annual appraisal with a trained appraiser and are supported with the revalidation process.
