Permanent, Full Time (35 hours per week) About the role We are looking for an experienced and proactive Health & Safety Manager to play a key role in promoting a positive, informed and preventative culture of health, safety, wellbeing and compliance across JRF. Reporting to the Workplace Lead, you will act as JRF's Competent Person, providing expert advice, guidance and assurance to colleagues, managers and senior leaders across the organisation. Working closely with our external Health & Safety partner, you will lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of our health and safety framework, ensuring compliance arrangements remain effective, proportionate and aligned with legislative requirements and organisational needs. This is a varied and influential role where you will manage and develop JRF's Health & Safety Management System, oversee audits and inspections, support incident investigations, monitor performance and provide meaningful reporting and insight to leadership teams. You will also chair the Health & Safety Forum, helping to drive engagement, accountability and continuous improvement across the organisation. In addition, you will support JRF's environmental compliance responsibilities, including regulatory submissions and sustainability initiatives, helping us further develop our environmental and ESG ambitions whilst ensuring compliance with relevant legislation. As part of a small and collaborative Workplace Team, you will contribute to wider workplace projects and support the delivery of high-quality workplace services when required. About you You will be an experienced health and safety professional with a passion for creating safe, compliant and supportive workplaces. To be successful in this role, you will bring: A NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent health and safety qualification. Significant experience within a health and safety, compliance, governance, risk or assurance environment. Expert knowledge of health and safety legislation, regulatory requirements and best practice. Experience developing and implementing compliance frameworks, policies, procedures and management systems. Experience managing audits, inspections, investigations and risk assessments. Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret legislation and translate requirements into practical and proportionate solutions. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to advise, influence, challenge and support colleagues at all levels. Experience producing management information, assurance reports, dashboards and performance indicators. Knowledge of environmental compliance and sustainability practices, with the ability to support organisational objectives in this area. Membership of IOSH, IIRSM or another relevant professional body, experience chairing health and safety forums and knowledge of fire safety, contractor management and workplace compliance requirements would be advantageous. This role will deliver across one or more programmes that make up the NHS Healthier You service. These programmes include the Diabetes Prevention Programme (DPP), Type 2 Diabetes Pathway to Remission Programme (T2DR), Behavioural Support for Obesity Prescribing Programme (BSOP) and Long-Term Conditions Prevention Pilot (LTCP). As a Self-Employed Health & Wellbeing Coach, you will be responsible for the engagement and delivery of sessions in both group and/or one-to-one settings with participants. Sessions are delivered face-to-face across North Yorkshire & Humber, therefore flexibility and a willingness to travel are essential. Applicants must also have access to their own vehicle and hold a full UK driving licence. Expected availability for programme delivery is between 12 and 20 hours per week. In return, you will receive £50 per 90 Minute session. Just some of your day-to-day responsibilities will include: • Deliver engaging NHS Healthier You Programme sessions to participants in a group and/or one-to-one setting, in accordance with our curriculum, resources and quality standards. • Motivate, support, and empower participants to make sustainable lifestyle and behaviour changes, using evidence-based coaching techniques to improve their overall health and wellbeing. • Adapt session delivery to meet the diverse needs, abilities, and learning styles of participants, and create a positive and inclusive environment to encourage participation. • Monitor participant progress, conduct regular revies, and celebrate achievements while identifying additional support needs. • Signpost participants to appropriate local health, wellbeing and lifestyle support services where required. • Participate in training, professional development, and quality improvement activities to ensure the highest standards of service delivery. The Team You will join the Specialist Technical team, providing dedicated support and specialist facility management to the Health suite of programmes.
