The post is comprised of 9.11 programmed activities (PAs), of which 6.56 provide direct clinical care (DCC), 1 DCC (Patient Administration), 0.05 DCC for the on-call rota, and 1.5 are for supporting professional activities (SPAs). The post is based at the Moorfields St George’s site. The proposed job plan is detailed below, which is subject to change in response to the demand of the service. This may increase to 10PAs depending on clinical need, in the future. The post also involves taking part in the joint MEH/Southwest London on-call rota, currently on a 1:22 weekly basis. The St George’s Neuro-Ophthalmology sessions include outpatient face to face and virtual clinics, and MDT clinics. The St George’s Strabismus sessions include outpatient face to face clinics, and a bi-weekly theatre. The post-holder will work closely with local support services, nursing and administrative teams to provide a comprehensive outpatient and elective service to diverse populations within the Southwest London sector. Applicants are required to hold FRCOphth, or equivalent, and be registered with the General Medical Council. Fellowship training within Neuro-Ophthalmology / Strabismus is essential and formal teaching experience would be advantageous. • Delivery of direct clinical care within the services managed, including the treatment of routine and urgent cases and management of clinically complex or sight threating conditions. This will include supporting with triage, assessment, and review of patients. • On the day leadership and management of the department, including supervising junior medical staff, nurse practitioners and AHP colleagues, and supporting with operational management decisions to ensure the smooth running of the department and delivery against operational targets. • Contribution to continuous service development and improvement, engagement in audits, and supporting robust clinical governance. • Providing appropriate training and teaching to staff, supporting their professional development. • Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to provide specialist advice as required. • Engage in research to stay up to date with current research and drive continuous innovation. • Maintain continuous professional development in line with Royal College of Ophthalmologist requirements. This provides the opportunity to work alongside a developing ACP and MDT workforce. The post-holder will also be responsible for managing 15 inpatients on one of our general Elderly Medicine wards (Hayes ward). Hayes ward is a 30 bedded ward and the post holder will manage the ward with another consultant colleague. There is also dedicated time within the job plan to cover their colleague on Hayes ward, and a further colleague on a separate Elderly Medicine ward (Franklin ward). The post-holder will be responsible to the Director of Unplanned Care at The Hillingdon Hospital. The role is a 8.75 PA post (6 PA Core hours DCC and 0.75 PA GIM on-call) and 2 PA’s supporting professional activities (SPA) as agreed by the medical director, the latter includes service development, audit and personal CPD. Personal CPD must be included as part of annual appraisal which is mandatory and required for the revalidation process. The post holder will participate in the on-call emergency medical rota on an approximately 1:21 basis. During the week, the post holder will be on call from home from 1900-0700, and then complete an onsite post take ward round the following morning from 0700-0900. During split weekend on calls (Saturday or Sunday), the post holder will be present on site from 0700-1900 and then on call from home until the following morning at 0700. The post holder will be encouraged to develop an area of expertise of special interest that he or she may have in Geriatric Medicine in accordance with the service needs of the department. The post-holder will have continuing responsibility for the care of patients in their charge and for the proper functioning of the department. They will also undertake administrative duties associated with the care of patients and the running of the clinical department.
