This is for a 10 PA (potentially 12 PA) post for a General and Upper GI Surgeon to work at Barking Havering and Redbridge University Hospital (BHRUT). This is an opportunity to join a busy, dynamic multidisciplinary team to help us improve the service that we provide to our population and is an exciting post based at Queens Hospital with cross site working, starting as soon as possible, on a Fixed Term Contract for 1 year (with possible extension thereafter).
The successful applicant will support the current delivery of General and Upper GI surgical elective and emergency services, including contribution to the delivery of UGI Faster Diagnosis Standards (FDS) and cancer services. She/he will join with the existing team to provide specialist care to the growing population of our patients, manage the emergency and elective Upper GI service (including a ‘hot’ cholecystectomy service) as well as taking part in the diagnosis and management of oesophago-gastric cancers. The applicant would be required to raise departmental profiles through research, teaching and education.
The duties of the post include:
- Provision of high quality Surgical/Oncological Management to patients with Oesophago-gastric cancer and benign Upper Gastrointestinal disease.
- Provide General Surgery acute on-call service, with the ratio of 1 in 3 weeks weekday on-call and 1 in 12 weeks weekend on-call rota and be responsible for the ward patients.
- Support specialist emergency upper GI services in the Trust.
- Attendance at weekly multidisciplinary meetings.
- Supervision and management of junior medical staff.
- Involvement in research and audit activity.
- Contribution to weekly teaching at Undergraduate and Postgraduate level
- Cover for authorised absence of colleagues.
- Regular participation in the Departmental Quality & Safety meetings
