We do this through sport, mentoring and personal development, with the aim of improving mental and physical wellbeing and giving young people the skills, confidence and motivation to realise their true potential. We engage young people through our boxing gym and other sport, providing mentoring, counselling, education and personal development to develop champions in and out of the ring. This is an exciting time for Switch Up and, as a growing organisation, we are looking for upbeat, passionate and committed Education Tutors who share our values. As an Education Tutor, you will be responsible for the delivery of high-quality, safe and inclusive education through our Alternative Provision. You will work with young people of school age and post-16 on a one-to-one or small group basis. The young people we work with have often struggled in mainstream education for a variety of reasons. Some may have been excluded, others may have SEMH or SEN needs, and many require a flexible, personalised approach to learning to help them re-engage and achieve a basic education. You will have strong, proven tutoring skills, with experience teaching in schools or other educational settings. You will bring the drive, enthusiasm and resilience needed to work with some of the hardest-to-reach young people, and the creativity to make learning engaging and accessible. Our targeted youth mentoring team works alongside the Alternative Provision, and there will be opportunities for you to support mentoring activity where appropriate. This role is pro rata, term time only (actual salary £21,517 – £23,172.41) inclusive of annual leave and bank holiday pay). Clinical Education & Training • Deliver high‑quality clinical education, bedside teaching, and competency‑based training for staff working on AMU across Bands 3–6. • Plan, coordinate, and facilitate AMU induction programmes, ensuring staff are equipped to work safely within acute, high‑turnover environments. • Support delivery of role‑specific education for Ambulatory Emergency Care (AEC), High Care areas, and general AMU clinical practice.[Governance June 23 | Word] • Act as a visible and accessible educational resource on the unit, supporting learning in real‑time clinical practice. 2. Preceptorship & Staff Development • Coordinate and support preceptorship programmes for newly qualified nurses, international nurses, and return‑to‑practice staff. • Provide coaching, supervision, and professional support to developing Band 5 nurses, supporting progression and retention. • Contribute to individual learning plans and support staff to meet required competencies within agreed timeframes. 3. Competency Assessment & Assurance • Support the completion, assessment, and maintenance of clinical competency frameworks in line with Trust standards. • Work with Ward Managers and senior staff to monitor and assure training compliance, including mandatory, essential, and role‑specific training using the AMU Training Matrix. • Identify training risks and escalate concerns appropriately where patient safety or workforce capability may be compromised. 4. Patient Safety & Governance‑Led Education • Translate learning from incidents, After Action Reviews, audits, complaints, and governance meetings into targeted education and practice development on AMU. • Deliver education in response to identified themes such as falls prevention, pressure ulcer prevention, documentation standards, escalation of deterioration, and medicines safety. • Support staff understanding and implementation of Trust policies, clinical guidelines, and national best‑practice standards. 5. Quality Improvement & Service Development • Support and contribute to quality improvement initiatives aimed at improving patient outcomes and staff capability on AMU. • Assist in audits, evaluations, and reviews to measure the impact of education on clinical practice and patient safety. • Participate in service development and improvement work relating to workforce education and training. 6. Leadership, Professional Role‑Model & Support • Act as a professional role model, demonstrating high standards of clinical practice, leadership, and compassionate care. • Promote a just culture and learning culture, encouraging reflective practice and staff engagement. • Support Ward Managers and senior nurses by providing expert educational input and advice. 7. Communication, Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement • Work collaboratively with Practice Development Teams, Ward Managers, Matrons, and multidisciplinary colleagues to ensure education aligns with service priorities. • Contribute to Trust education networks, forums, and initiatives, sharing learning and best practice. • Maintain accurate records of education delivered, competency assessments, and evaluation outcomes. 8. Visiting and assessing children and young people with OT Needs. To appropriately identify service provision in line with child and young persons needs at specialist, targeted or universal level of support. Delivery of specialist programmes on an individual and/or small group basis. Advice and treatment for children and young people with functional difficulties and sensory processing needs. Offering advice to parents and carers as well as teaching staff at a targeted or universal level. Maintaining children/young peoples records to a high standard. Screening and prioritising new referrals in order to determine the need and level of therapy provision required in line with service criteria. At the point of referral, gathering relevant information regarding previous and current input from health and social care services. Carrying out a range of non-standardised and standardised assessments and interpreting a range of factors relating to the child or young persons condition; focusing on access to education. Providing reports to referrers and other agencies involved in the child/young persons care and advice on appropriate differentiation of and access to the curriculum. Plan, create and deliver a wide range of tailored interventions and/ or therapy programmes where direct SaLT input is indicated and effectively hand over prescribed programmes through training and modelling with teaching staff, parents and carers. To maintain effective liaison with all partners e.g. parents/ carers, professionals in Education, Health, Social Care and other Services with particular regard to Safeguarding and best practice. To monitor and record child or young persons progress and effectiveness of intervention through goal setting, outcome measurement and evaluation of practice and to communicate these with key stakeholders. Collaboration with a range of partner agencies to create effective transition support for specific children and young people. Promotion of effective inclusion of children and young people into all aspects of the school curriculum. To attend and contribute to team meetings as required. To be aware of changing trends in treatment and promote Evidence Based Practice; embedding this into own specialist area of work in order to provide the highest standard of care to service users. Embedding legislative change and key developments relating to improved outcomes for children and young people with SLCN. To participate in clinical audit, service development activities and research programmes as required. To engage with continual professional development as identified through managerial and clinical supervision and appraisal, including attending training and courses as agreed. To comply with the Cognus Limited mandatory training requirements. As part of the therapies team to plan, deliver and evaluate training sessions for schools and educational providers.
