I enjoy activities that help me stay regulated, such as bouncing on my trampoline at home. I also like visiting Brodies soft play area and going to the park for short periods of time. I rely on my carers to meet all my care needs, including personal care and support getting in and out of transport. When in the community, I use a disability buggy to help me get around, as I can become easily distracted, may wander off, and can refuse to walk, especially if I want to go in a different direction. Female preferred. Hours of work 6 hours a week. Rate of pay. £13.50 Essential: I need you to: • Have a good understanding of neurodivergence, including autism spectrum disorder (ASD), is important when supporting me. • Be able to provide constant supervision, as I have no awareness of danger. If my carer becomes distracted, I may walk into the road or move towards hazards without recognising the risks. • When in the community, I need my carer to always hold my hand. If something catches my attention, I will try to move towards it without considering safety. I also use a specialist buggy, which supports me during transitions and helps keep me safe. • When I am dysregulated, I may bite, pinch, or bang my head on the floor. I need a carer who is emotionally attuned and able to provide calm, consistent, and reassuring support during moments of distress or overwhelm. • When out and about, it is important that my carer brings my tablet (so I can watch Peppa Pig) and snacks, as these help me stay regulated. • I may find crowded or noisy environments difficult. I need a carer who can recognise this and guide me calmly to a quieter, safer space when needed. • Due to the level of support I require, the role of my personal assistant is physically active, and it is important that my career is physically able to meet my needs. • To build trust through empathy, patience, and a genuine ability to connect with me. Charlie enjoys playing with his toys, especially his car collection, playing with technical gadgets such as VR, tablets or just chill on his phone. The Role As Charlie’s Personal Assistant you will be required to provide one-to-one care that promotes independence, dignity, safety, wellbeing and support within his home and local community. Charlie has a physical and learning disability and uses a wheelchair. At times Charlie also uses a walking frame with a prosthetic leg to support him, so the role will involve supporting his mobility and ensuring that he can safely access the community and activities he enjoys. Working within a major teaching hospital and regional specialist centre, you will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary colleagues and receive support from experienced senior clinicians. We are seeking an enthusiastic and compassionate SLT with relevant post-registration experience in adult dysphagia and acquired communication disorders. You should be able to manage a caseload with appropriate autonomy and demonstrate sound clinical reasoning, effective teamwork and a commitment to evidence-based practice. This is a permanent post of 30 hours per week. You will provide specialist Speech and Language Therapy input to a defined adult acute caseload, independently assessing, diagnosing and managing patients with acquired communication and swallowing disorders. They will prioritise and manage their workload, formulate evidence-based management plans and contribute to coordinated multidisciplinary care. The role includes providing specialist advice to patients, families, carers and professionals and supporting continuity of care on transfer or discharge. You will contribute to videofluoroscopy and other instrumental swallowing assessments in accordance with their level of competence. Previous experience or competency in videofluoroscopy would be desirable; however, training and supervised competency development will be provided where required.
