    Overriding purpose is to support the provision of highest quality patient care through personal actions and continuous improvement. Responsibility for the core consultant activity of day to day running & leadership of the clinical activities in the paed intensive care and continued clinical presence in the units during the day ward rounds, emergency & post-operative admissions when on for PICU. Participate in network activities related to critical care. Organising network teaching activities were requested & liaising with one or more of the critical care networks referring centres. Responsibilities for carrying out teaching, examination & accreditation duties as required & contributing to undergraduate, postgraduate, continuing medical education activity, locally & nationally.2 consultants are always on call for intensive care, giving each Unit (general and cardiac) separate & independent consultant cover and a third on call during the day to provide support. The service is consultant led, and often consultant delivered, depending on the clinical acuity of patients and the experience of the middle grade clinical staff. On-call commitments are predominantly non-resident; with a resident component in Cardiac PICU until 22:00, transitioning to non-resident on-call thereafter. Consultants may additionally be required to remain or become resident beyond this period, depending on clinical activity and service demand, at their professional discretion across both the units. This is a locum post to cover maternity cover for 9 months. The current contractual commitment is for 10 core programmed activities per week, with additional 1 PA. The average weekly PA allocations are: 9DCC programmed activities, including 0.5PA for patient administration. 1.5 SPA for CPD, audit, mandatory training, Revalidation etc. to be taken flexibly. Whole time consultants within the Trust are allocated 1.5 PA’s for Supporting Professional Activities (SPA) in order to support the requirements of revalidation, which include activities such as participating in audit, CPD and mandatory training. Up to a further 1 PA may be made available for SPA by mutual agreement with the CMG as part of the job planning process. This must constitute appropriate verifiable SPA activity that supports an individual’s professional development and provides benefit to UHL. The post-holder will participate in medical audit, the Trust’s clinical governance processes, and CPD (included in the job plan), with mandatory attendance at audit and governance meetings. The role also includes clinical management, including budgetary responsibilities where appropriate, and compliance with the Trust’s standing orders and financial instructions. This is a full-time Consultant Geriatrician post within the department of Care of the Elderly (COTE) at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust. The post will work in an integrated fashion with existing Consultant staff within the department of Care of the Elderly (COTE) to deliver an expansion of services for older people and support major new service developments for older people at the Hospital of St Cross, Rugby and University Hospital, Coventry. There are various opportunities to pursue sub-specialty interest and to develop new services including Community Geriatric services, Care for Elderly Major Trauma patients, Frailty Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) service, Ambulatory and Hot clinics, Surgical liaison services and Onco-geriatric service. There are also opportunities to work together with other specialities to set up services such as joint Heart Failure services, movement disorder clinic and Fracture Liaison service. This is a full-time post (10 PA) within the department of the Care of the Elderly at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust. This post will have a job plan that covers ICU units across OUH. You will be working within the ICU team which covers not only a brand new, bespoke critical care unit which is a tertiary referral centre for critical care, regional vascular and major trauma, and supports one of the largest transplant departments in Europe, but also two specialist ICU’s: Neuro ICU and Cardio Thoracic ICU. There may also be some cover to the Surgical Emergency Unit. You will work alongside a team of experienced Band 7 Dietitians with support from Band 6 Dietitians and undertake supervision of B5 rotational Dietitians and students. You will be supported by the Critical Care MDT who highly respect and value dietitians. To be responsible for the development and provision of a highly specialist, evidence based dietetic service to the patients treated within the adult intensive care units. Working as an integral member of both the Dietetic team and the MDT to provide a flexible, prioritised service based on clinical need. Initiate, lead and participate in audits, project work and research within own clinical area. Participate in Governance activities and meetings within adult critical care and the Dietetics Department Monitor and evaluate whether local/ national standards are being met and make recommendations for change to protocols and guidelines within critical care. Work autonomously as a lead clinical specialist, in the provision of a comprehensive nutrition and dietetic service to the adult critical care units within the OUH. Contribute to the provision of a comprehensive specialised dietetic service to critical care units. This will include: - Providing a highly specialised clinical service to the adult critical care and high dependency units at the John Radcliffe and Churchill Hospitals and the critical care unit at the Horton Hospital - There may be a requirement to provide cover to the Neuro Intensive Care unit and Neurosciences ward. - Help co-ordinate the dietetic service provided by other staff to the adult critical care unit at the John Radcliffe and Churchill Hospitals and the critical care unit at the Horton Hospital - Train other dietitians in this speciality (band 6s and band 5s on rotation and TPN dietitians) - Help co-ordinate professional development, development of standards / protocols / guidelines for all critical care areas across the Trust (i.e. inclusive of cardiac and neuro ITUs) To assess the nutritional status of individual patients based on anthropometric measurements e.g. weight, height, weight history as well as biochemical parameters, diet history and other validated methods of nutritional assessment as appropriate. Collation of audit data on the outcomes of critical care patients managed in the dietetic service To determine priorities for own work area based on clinical need and balance patient caseload with professional demands. To maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of patient interventions on electronic patient records. To communicate any changes in day to day management and dietetic interventions to appropriate members of the multidisciplinary team. This is achieved by documenting within nursing/medical notes or by means of generating a letter/report and/or updating any patient database. Management and professional responsibilities: Be accountable for own actions working within the professional, ethical and legal framework for dietetics set out in the Health Profession Councils Dietitians’ Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics and the British Dietetic Association’s Professional Standards for Dietitians and Code of Professional Conduct. To participate in departmental audits and initiate/lead audits within own work area in order to monitor and evaluate whether local/ national standards are being met and make recommendations for change.
