The post holder will work in the lung cancer screening (LCS) service and will be mainly based at the mobile vans, Unipart house, assisting the radiographic and nursing staff in the smooth running of the service. A significant part of this role will require telephone screening of participants to ascertain their risk score. Cross site working will be required across Oxfordshire with the ability to have some regular at home working. The LCS service offers a 5 day a week service for targeted participants that meet the criteria of currently or previously smoked aged between 55 and 74 years of age. We offer an initial telephone appointment with a further face to face appointment with a low dose CT scan if indicated. As we serve the whole county, we are a mobile service moving around the county a couple of times a year. The post holder will work closely with all staff, in particular, Nurses and radiographers to assist with delivering a high standard of care. The post holder must meet the requirements of the Health & Safety at Work Act (1974), the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations, the Ionising Radiation Regulations and Data Protection Act (1984) and any subsequent legislation. The service has a multidiscipline team with a range of clinical and administrative staff, this role would be required to work with and provide administrative support to the whole team. The LCS service offers a 5 day a week service for targeted participants that meet the criteria of currently or previously smoked aged between 55 and 74 years of age. We offer an initial telephone appointment with a further face to face appointment with a low dose CT scan if indicated. As we serve the whole county, we are a mobile service moving around the county a couple of times a year. The post holder will work closely with all staff, in particular, Nurses and radiographers to assist with delivering a high standard of care. The post holder must meet the requirements of the Health & Safety at Work Act (1974), the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations, the Ionising Radiation Regulations and Data Protection Act (1984) and any subsequent legislation. JOB PROFILE • Introduce and welcome patients in the waiting area, confirming their identity according to the Trust Policy. • To be comfortable working with a range of different patients. • To exercise discretion and maintain patient confidentiality. • Maintain the patient’s dignity and privacy at all times. • To demonstrate good communication skills when dealing with patients, relatives and members of the multidisciplinary team, utilising sensitivity, empathy and the ability to manage conflict. • Act as a patient’s escort taking them to the changing rooms, preparing them for the examination. • To assist with patient moving and handling and equipment moving, using correct methods and equipment as required (as per Manual Handling Policy). • To undertake mandatory training as required by the Trust, to develop and increase skills, to improve the service to the public. • Responsible for the accurate booking in of patients, in addition to amending data where appropriate, using the Radiology Information System (RIS), the Electronic Patient Record (EPR) and Nelson + software. • To cover staff annual leave/absence which may require cross site working. • Assist Radiographers performing low dose CT scans. • Explaining to patients the preparatory requirements regarding undressing/dressing and assisting the patients when this is necessary. • Inputting and amending data on CRIS. • Help to maintain high standards of cleanliness of equipment and accessories, in addition to keeping examination rooms and changing area clean, tidy and supplied with linen • Assisting in stock rotation of supplies. • Assisting with the preparation of the examination rooms. • To be aware of and comply with the relevant Ionising Radiation Protection Regulations and Local Rules (IRR 17 and IR(ME)R 17). • To maintain a professional appearance and attitude at all times, working together and supporting other members of the team in a polite and helpful manner. • In addition to the key areas listed, staff are required to carry out such other duties as maybe reasonably required. • To be aware of and comply with Trust policies, procedures and legal requirements including Health & Safety regulations, COSHH, Manual Handling Regulations, Data Protection Act. • Contributing to the department’s Quality Assurance and Audit Programme. • Participating in all relevant in-house training. • Communicate equipment faults. • Assist in and supervise training of new LCS Assistants as required. • Act as a first point of contact on the telephone and by email for patients, relatives, GPs and any other relevant agencies, answering or re-directing queries in a timely manner, as appropriate. • Support with telephone screening as required, and after undergoing appropriate training, to identify lung cancer risk scores of participants. • Use telephone, email and letters to communicate professionally with participants to arrange appointments and follow up non attendants. • Provide primary administrative support to all clinical staff, and all participants in the program, including diary administration, correspondence support and other administrative duties as required. • Provide a supporting role to the Nurse Manager and Information Support Officer to help ensure the efficient administration of the service. • Provide rostering and clinic planning, managing DNAs and rescheduling when required. • Attend departmental meetings, training and your annual appraisal as required to ensure that you maintain an up-to-date working knowledge of service and trust procedures • Work within Standard Operating Procedures This advert closes on Wednesday 9 Sep 2026
