    This is a great opportunity to join our laboratory team, supporting the analysis of water samples that help protect public health and the environment. In this role, you will conduct laboratory testing, report results within required timeframes, and help maintain the high-quality and compliance standards expected in a regulated environment.     We are currently recruiting for a Mechanical & Electrical Technician to join our team at Fobney Water Treatment Works in Reading. As the successful candidate, you will be using your mechanical & electrical knowledge as well as your experience to inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify or repair as appropriate, mechanical plant and associated electrical equipment, in a safe, efficient, timely and effective manner with minimum supervision allowing us to ensure that all of our sites remain operational for the benefit of our customers. This is an excellent opportunity to make a real difference to Thames Water's environmental impact, and you will be actively helping to reduce pollution from our sites. What you’ll be doing as the Mechanical & Electrical Technician - Carrying out scheduled planned maintenance work on mechanical and electrical equipment in compliance with company procedures to minimise plant breakdowns. - You will investigate plant failures and carry out repairs as quickly and efficiently as possible to avoid interruptions to the process. This may involve investigating and diagnosing complex faults and carrying out repairs during incidents. - You will be expected to provide technical advice, refer to up-to-date technical knowledge, and provide training or support for technical trainees if required. - Examples of equipment that you will be working on will be various pumps and associated control gear, 3-phase motors, starters and controls, electronic control systems such as VSDs, automatic valves and penstocks, flow, level and pressure measurement, programmable logic controllers, variable speed drives and controls, chemical handling, and dosing equipment. - Participate in a standby rota following the relevant training. Base Location: Fobney (Reading) WTW, Rose Kiln Lane, Reading, RG2 0SF Working Pattern: 38 Hours, Monday- Friday 7:30 am – 3:36 pm plus Standby rota payments & Overtime opportunities can increase the earning potential by up to a further £8,000-£10,000 per annum upon completion of essential company training. You must have previous experience in an electrical apprenticeship, ONC/HNC in engineering, NVQ, or C&G level 3 in Electrical engineering, with an upskill in mechanical NVQ2/3 is crucial.     About the role: This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced instrumentation, control, and automation technician to join the Hatfield based Sewage pumping team at Mill Green STW. You will be working in and around the Hatfield and surrounding areas, covering approximately 270 pumping stations of different sizes and complexities, ensuring sewage is removed from customers properties as efficiently as possible. Examples of equipment that you will be working on will be various pumps and associated control gear, 3-phase motors, starters and controls, electronic control systems such as VSDs, automatic valves and penstocks, flow, level and pressure measurement, programmable logic controllers, variable speed drives and controls, and chemical handling and dosing equipment. - Supporting the local maintenance teams, carrying out planned and breakdown maintenance activity on electromechanical wastewater assets. - Providing technical advice to the wider team, referring to up-to-date technical knowledge, and providing training or support for technical trainees if required. - Undertake fault diagnostics and can resolve issues promptly. - Interpret and update Electrical drawings. - Timely feedback on work carried out daily. - Monitor treatment processes using the SCADA system and act on alarms as required. Base Location: Witney – OX28 5JH Working Pattern or hours: Monday-Friday 7:30-15:36, 38 hours per week, including working on a call-out rota where you will receive additional payment. All PPE, tools, and a Van will be provided. What you should bring to the role - Have considerable experience in electrical and systems. A time-served apprenticeship in an engineering sector, NVQ level 3 or greater in electrical engineering. - You will have qualifications in BS7671 or 18th Edition electrical wiring regulations. Experience in maintaining, testing, installing and fault diagnosis on electrical plant equipment safely and efficiently. - Experience with 3-phased systems. - Knowledge and awareness of health and safety policies and processes are essential. - The work will require physical fitness, as you will work in confined spaces, with the successful completion of the appropriate training. - Participation in a 24/7 out-of-hours standby rota will be required after a suitable period of training and assessment, for which you will receive additional payment. - You will need to undertake role-specific training to fulfil any safety and team competency requirements. - A full UK driving licence is essential.
