Experience in complex care such as Spinal Injuries, Tracheostomy care, Suctioning, and Enteral Feeding is desirable in this role. Job Purpose As an SLT you will be working directly with a specialist caseload of patients with complex needs to assess their speech, language and cognitive communication needs as well as eating, drinking and swallowing (EDS) needs, including specialist input into tracheostomy management, prolonged disorders of consciousness (PDOC), and Nil by Mouth (NBM) pathways. Working as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team (MDT), the post holder will deliver input in line with the Cygnet SLT pathway for Neurological Complex Care and act as the lead for Speech and Language Therapy within the service, supporting rehabilitation, risk management, safety, wellbeing and quality of life through evidence-based assessment and intervention. The role will contribute to the development of person-centred care pathways, provide specialist advice and consultation, support staff training and competency development, and lead on the implementation of interventions that optimise communication, swallowing function, participation and overall clinical outcomes for service users with highly complex neurological and rehabilitation needs. You will be part of a company-wide SLT service and as such will have the opportunity to participate in large-scale projects. You will receive high-quality supervision and be supported with CPD. We are looking for a Speech and Language Therapist with: A degree / postgraduate diploma (or equivalent) in Speech and Language Therapy, registration with HCPC (Health Care Professions Council) and membership of the RCSLT (Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists) Competency to independently assess and manage EDS needs (essential) Experience in the field of acquired brain injury, neuroprogressive conditions, spinal injuries, evidenced by high level of clinical SLT knowledge. The service provides a dedicated care pathway for men affected by acquired brain injury or neurological conditions, where behaviours that challenge may be the main barrier to recovery and rehabilitation. The service supports the Level 1 Neuropsychiatric Rehabilitation Pathway for the North West , with a focus on adult males. Cygnet Paddocks has individually designed wards to support a clear and distinctive care and treatment pathway for people affected by acquired brain injury. The in-house interdisciplinary team includes neuropsychiatry, psychology, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, physiotherapy, nurses and support workers, all working together to keep the individual at the heart of their care and discharge planning. Your Day-to-Day as an Activity Co- ordinator As an Activity Co- ordinator at Cygnet Paddocks, you will support and enhance the care of individuals at the service by working closely with the Occupational Therapist and wider interdisciplinary team. You will help plan, deliver and promote a wide range of therapeutic, recreational, social and wellbeing activities that are meaningful, safe and person- centred . Encouraging individuals to access and take part in a variety of activities, hobbies and therapeutic programmes Supporting people to maintain existing interests, hobbies and social connections Assisting the Occupational Therapist with the planning and implementation of therapy programmes Helping to source and prepare appropriate materials , resources and equipment for activities Contributing creative ideas for activities, events and group sessions Facilitating activities safely and in line with individual care plans, risk assessments and therapeutic goals Promoting recovery, independence, social inclusion and community engagement Supporting individuals to build confidence, develop daily living skills and improve wellbeing Working collaboratively with the wider clinical, care and support team We’re Looking for Someone Who Has We are looking for an enthusiastic and academically strong candidate who can bring creativity, structure and compassion to the role. Experience and/or a genuine passion for working in healthcare, mental health, neurorehabilitation, acquired brain injury, neurological conditions, learning disability services or social care Some knowledge or understanding of Occupational Therapy A creative flair and the ability to plan engaging , meaningful activities The confidence to work as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team Strong communication and organisation skills A positive, patient and flexible approach An interest in supporting people with complex needs and behaviours that may challenge An awareness of recovery approaches, social inclusion and person- centred care, which is desirable This role may suit someone with experience as an Activity Co- ordinator , Activities Coordinator, Therapy Assistant, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Support Worker, Healthcare Assistant, Mental Health Support Worker, Activities Worker or Social Care Worker.
