A Vacancy at Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. This post is for a substantive Consultant Radiologist with subspecialty interest in Genitourinary Radiology. This is a full-time 10 PA substantive post (8 PAs direct clinical care / 2 PAs for Supporting Professional Activity) offering an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Doctor to join a dynamic, rapidly expanding team delivering multidisciplinary acute care in Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals. The post will be based at Southport and Ormskirk site with option to work across other sites. There will be opportunity to develop subspecialty interest depending on the needs of the department. Applicants will be required to have qualifications i.e MBBS/ MBCHB and FRCR(UK or equivalent.) They will be required to hold Membership of the Royal College ofRCR(UK or equivalent qualifications), to be on the specialist register with the General Medical Councilor due to obtain their CCT within six months of the date of interview. Overseas trained applicants have to have had a submitted CESR application to be eligible Interview will take place on Tuesday 24th November, 2026 To maintain the expanding workload of the department including supporting the extensive department input into MDT meetings, to meet waiting list targets and to enable the introduction of extended working. There is currently no on call commitment for this post. The successful candidate will support the existing Radiologists. This is an additional post to help support the expanding workload. The department receives 3-5 Radiology SpRs from the Northwest School of Radiology Training Scheme. All consultants are involved in supervision and training of trainees both on site. The degree of subspecialty work to general is flexible depending on the individual’s experience. The appointee would be expected to cover for colleagues around study and sick leave and a degree of flexibility within the job plan is expected The consultant will be expected to participate in Audit as part of the annual appraisal process. Participation in research activities is actively encouraged and supported. The hospital has a defined programme of medical audit which has recently been restructured. Members of the Department of Radiology are active in the management and promotion of the Trust’s clinical Governance Strategy. We also provide urgent care at our Urgent Treatment Centre located in St Helens town centre. Specialist Regional Services We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales. The radiological workload and complexity within the department has increased markedly and is continuing to do so in keeping with national trends. The appointee will be expected to ensure their clinical service is in accordance with the principles of Clinical Governance which must include appropriate clinical audit, clinical targets, Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s), evidence-based practice and continued personal educational and professional development.
