At Care in Mind our homes are always a hub of activity and energy where the young people can feel safe, and our staff enjoy coming to work. Our young people can still be quite active at night so you will have lots of interaction and will be required to support them their wellbeing, education, household tasks and general life skills. There will also be more challenging aspects to the role such as incident management and de-escalation of challenging behaviours. You will be required to update online care records, complete medication administration and provide effective handovers to the day staff. In addition, you will be responsible for the general upkeep and tidiness of the home ensuring the young people live in homely environment. Even though you are working nights, you will have the support of another night worker or a sleep in and have access to an on-call manager for additional support. At our home in Stockport, you will be working with young people who have a variety of mental health diagnosis including personality disorder, those who have difficult relationships with food and those who use self-harm as a strategy to cope with their emotions. As such, you will be required to be patient and resilient as the support you will be providing to our young people will include supporting them to improve their relationship with food and managing incidents of self-harm. A number of our young people are preparing for moving on positively from the home into the community, therefore you will be supporting this transition through things such as: supporting them to self-administer their own medication, getting back into education, accessing public transport and appointments independently. Our young people are very adventurous and engage in a variety of activities including festivals, walking in the Peak District, visiting places like the cinema, Trafford Centre, indoor golf as well as having a stroll on a local park. There will never be a dull moment when you are on shift. The home is a 4-bed service which is located between Stockport town centre and Marple giving the house the best of both worlds in the sense of being close to all amenities being near a town centre but also the opportunity to explore the countryside. The house is a large 4-bedroom detached property which is well maintained and homely, making it a lovely environment to work in. The garden is another area of activity and includes a trampoline, football nets, dining area as well as flower beds and vegetable patch. Previous care experience is not essential and full training will be provided. You will receive ongoing support and mentoring from our friendly residential and clinical team which includes Reflective Practice, 1:1 supervisions and Group Staff support. The current opportunity is for a Consultant Medical Oncologist with an interest in Breast Cancer and Melanoma will provide care to patients served by the directorate. Clinical: · Provide oncology advice to the relevant MDT and to patients with these cancers · Prescribing of and supervision of prescribing of chemotherapy · On call cover for general oncological emergencies and provision of advice in and out of hours, to non-specialist teams managing patients with cancer · Out-patient clinic, day unit and ward management. Administrative: · Participation in the directorate clinical governance processes including reporting into the Trust mortality database · Engagement with all the administrative electronic systems needed to deliver patient care. Research: · There is an active research programme within the directorate with links to the Sir Bobby Robson Unit at Freeman Hospital, the late phase research team within the research and development directorate and to Newcastle University. Contribution to the research programme or further developments and collaborations will be actively encouraged. Teaching: · There will be opportunity to develop teaching skills within the directorate and within the wider trust environment. · Bedside and clinical teaching of undergraduate students will form part of the responsibilities of the consultant · Clinical training and supervision of Trust junior doctors, Deanery trainees and ACPs will be expected. Flexibility: In line with the Trust’s core value of placing patients at the heart of everything we do, we are developing our service provision to be responsive to the needs of our patients. To meet those needs some staff groups will be increasingly asked to work a more flexible work pattern so that they can offer services in the evening or weekend.
