Responsible for the clinical screening/review of prescriptions, both in-patients and outpatients, and to accurately check and supply medicines to patients, including clinical trials in accordance with all departmental, Trust and national standards, procedures, and policies. • Delivering a clinical pharmacy service to designated patient groups, promoting best practice for all areas of pharmaceutical care in accordance with all local, Trust and national guidelines. To use specialist knowledge to identify and resolve complex pharmaceutical issues, taking into consideration other co-morbidity factors associated with the patient and liaise with medical and nursing staff. • Developing specialist knowledge and skills relating to oncology practice including Good Clinical Practice in clinical trials if required. • Safe and effective screening / review of prescriptions for chemotherapy regimens, clinical trials and treatment strategies in use at the Christie including full awareness of the intrathecal chemotherapy policy. • Following local, Trust and National guidelines for safe medicines practice. • To promote and maintain cost-effective prescribing through involvement in the development, implementation and review of evidence-based guidelines and protocols with fellow healthcare professionals, under the management of the Principal Pharmacist for Clinical Services, to establish best practice for the area of clinical responsibility. 3. Service developments within other disease groups • To participate in service development and implementation with regards to other disease group initiatives. • To work in collaboration with and support disease group lead pharmacists with service evaluation, project management and implementation of new initiatives / scheme. • To contribute to projects to integrate GM cancers services across the Christie@sites. • To develop time management skills to ensure appropriate prioritisation of project implementation and workload in all areas of work. • Participate in clinical activities e.g. multidisciplinary ward rounds, out-patient clinics and deputise as needed e.g. clinical and committee meetings. 4. In the Plastic Surgery Department, there is a diverse workload; the subspecialties include trauma, elective hand and upper limb, head and neck, craniofacial, cleft, sarcoma, bone infection, breast reconstruction and skin cancer. The post holder will have exposure to both emergency and elective practice – on the ward, in clinic and in theatre. In Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery the post holder will have a comprehensive exposure to all aspects of elective and emergency Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at a tertiary centre including maxillofacial trauma, head and neck cancer and reconstruction, salivary gland surgery, temporomandibular joint surgery, dentoalveolar surgery and orthognathic (deformity) surgery. The Phlebotomy department see on average 6,000 patients a week, working with a large variety of specialities to provide the best possible patient experience. An exciting opportunity has now arisen for Band 2 Phlebotomists in our Blood Testing Department. We are looking for enthusiastic and vibrant people to join our team of junior and senior phlebotomists to perform phlebotomy on adults and children over 7. You do not need previous phlebotomy experience but will need to be a dynamic and motivated person with previous patient or customer care experience. Our department also has community settings across 4 sites and so you will also need to be flexible regarding working times and locations. Of course, this also means that no 2 days are ever the same and each day brings a new experience. The main responsibility of the Phlebotomist is to perform venepuncture for the collection of blood samples, with minimum trauma to both patient and specimen, from in-patients and out-patients for the diagnosis and care of a patient. It is essential to all aspects of the role that the post holder can organise efficiently, perform under pressure, work on their own initiative and as part of a team as well as under the guidance of supervision, following written standardised procedures. There is a need for shift and weekend work that necessitates a flexible approach to the hours and site of employment. You may also be responsible for answering queries from patients so need to possess strong communication skills. We are a large, friendly and diverse team made up of Phlebotomists, Senior Phlebotomists and Supervisors that currently provides an adult inpatient service and adult and paediatric outpatient services across sites in Tooting, Roehampton, Raynes Park and Battersea. The collection of blood samples from patients through venepuncture for laboratory analysis, as requested by doctors, when necessary for the diagnosis and care of a patient, ensuring blood samples are labelled correctly in preparation for distribution to the appropriate laboratories. Liaises with all groups of staff to provide an effective Phlebotomy service. To provide an efficient routine in-patient and outpatient Phlebotomy service to adults referred to the service for blood tests by their General Practitioner or clinic. The post holder will be required to work independently, liaise with other healthcare professionals, clinicians, laboratory staff, patients and/or their representatives.
