The role
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Energy Contracts team within Energy Markets as a Battery Contracts Analyst, supporting the growing portfolio of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) assets. The team manages energy-related route-to-market contracts and service agreements with our customers, covering up to 600 agreements with a value of more than £1bn per year. You’ll play an important role in the implementation, execution and performance management of BESS contracts, helping us understand and meet our contractual obligations, resolve issues and continuously improve how we work. Working collaboratively with colleagues and external partners, you’ll help ensure contracts are managed safely, responsibly and effectively, with the opportunity to broaden your experience across other asset classes over time.
You Will
- Develop your expertise to become a subject matter expert for BESS contracts, ensuring key terms, obligations and requirements are clearly understood and embedded into our day-to-day activities.
- Support the mobilisation of new BESS assets, maintaining contract obligation trackers, governance calendars and issue logs, with safety and responsible decision-making at the heart of how you work.
- Prepare and validate customer reporting, contractual statements and management information, working closely with Back Office to support accurate and timely reporting and payments.
- Build positive, collaborative relationships with customers and internal teams, supporting account meetings, issue resolution and the development of new contracts.
- Support commercial and operational analysis, including ancillary services, imbalance and non-delivery evaluations, helping colleagues understand contractual impacts and identify opportunities for improved performance.
You Have
- A degree and/or relevant experience within an energy-related, commercial or analytical environment, which could include contract management, commercial operations, settlements, assurance, reporting or Back Office.
- An understanding of the wider energy industry, markets, assets and regulatory environment. Experience of BESS optimisation, electricity settlement, reconciliation or invoicing would be helpful, but is not essential.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills, with the curiosity and attention to detail needed to investigate data, understand discrepancies and communicate their contractual or commercial impact.
- Confidence using Excel and modern reporting systems; experience with Power BI or other business intelligence and data-visualisation tools would be beneficial.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with an organised and collaborative approach and the ability to work independently when needed, while maintaining a strong focus on safety and customer delivery.
About SSE
SSE’s purpose is to be restless every day until we make electricity clean, affordable and available for all.
We do this by developing, building, operating and investing in electricity infrastructure and businesses needed in the energy transition. This includes electricity transmission and distribution networks, onshore and offshore wind farms, hydro-electric power and flexible thermal generation. We also provide products and services for businesses and other customers.
Our investment plan will see SSE invest £33bn in critical electricity infrastructure to 2030.
SSE Energy Markets secure the energy needed to power customers' lives, while creating value for SSE. Our Energy Markets trading teams buy the fuel needed to deliver cleaner energy and sell power generated in our wind farm, hydro and thermal assets back to the markets.
